Top Guys In the Minors
Kevin Goldstein, ESPNBryce Harper, OF
Washington Nationals
No pro debut is more anticipated than that of Harper, who remains possibly the most hyped prospect in the history of the game. The terrifying thing about him is this: from his amateur career, to his one year of junior college baseball to his brief stint in the Arizona Fall League, he's exceeded nearly unrealistic expectations at every opportunity, so the same could occur at Low-A Hagerstown, which is Harper's most likely starting point. Forty home runs is hardly out of the question.40 Homers this year? Where does he end the season? High A or AA?

Everybody is different, but I like to look at past examples with similarities in terms of hype and talent.
A-Rod finished his pro debut in AAA.
Griffey played in Low-A for all of his pro debut at age 17, but the year after he was drafted in ’88, he finished in AA.
I think Harper finishes the year in AA.

AA
Wherever he ends, the highest level will consist of a couple of weeks of games. If it is High A, then Harper got hurt and or struggled in Low A.

I could see AA
40 HRs is very optimistic, I think.
What I am curious about is how long he stays in Low-A if he rakes there. Will be interesting to watch for sure. And if he struggles, how does he react.

Stanton Power
Stanton hit somewhere near 39 HR at A-Ball… I think Harper will come in under this for his combined year (likely won’t stay at low-A if things are going so well).
If he has Stanton-type numbers this year, it will be claimed that he walked on water and turned water into wine…
