Possible trade
So I have an opportunity to execute a trade in a 7 x 7 (OBP, SLG are extra hitting stats, BB and K/9 are pitching) 14 team keeper league (keep any 10 players, counts as your first 10 picks).
I give up: Ryan Zimmerman, Jeremy Hellickson, Ian Kennedy, Desmond Jennings, and Anthony Rizzo
I get: McCutchen, Mike Morse, Ryan Madson, and Sergio Santos.
This would leave me with Dillon Gee, Michael Pineda, Daniel Hudson, and Shaun Marcum as my only starters, but my rationale is that since walks and k/9 count throwing a bunch of relievers (I would have 4 closers) is a good strategy, expecially if I can beef up my hitting. Besides, I am in win now mode and would be slightly improving one keeper (Zimmerman to McCutchen) and not particularly downgrading the others (I can keep 3 of Kinsler, Zobrist, Wainright, Neftali Feliz, Hudson, and the other 4 in the deal after I take into account all of my definite guys)
Thoughts?

Initial reaction:
I’m not liking the deal for you. Zimmerman is only 26 and he could still turn the season around. Jennings is ranked the #22 best prospect and Rizzo is ranked #75. Not too crazy about 5 players for 4 players. I think Zimmerman is the best player.

trade
I think you are giving up too much in this deal. Zimmerman will have the higher SLG at the end of the year and possibly a higher OBP than McCutchen.
If you take Zimmerman out and replace him with someone else, that might make more sense.

it could really hurt your future teams
Trading for closers who don’t have strong holds on their jobs in a keeper league is risky business. You would be giving up 5 guys who could all be starter worthy in a 14 team league possibly as soon as next year and in return only get possibly 2 guys still worth having. I like what you said about loading up on closers and think that’s a good strategy in that league but I don’t think its worth giving up so many good pieces for.

Thanks for the feedback
The trade wound up changing a bit, I wound up giving up Zimmerman, Hellickson, and Kinsler for McCutchen, Pedroia, and Jordan Walden. (When the trade went through Walden was in a much better position). And for those that asked, we’re both in similar positions, both of us are built pretty well for long term success and are doing incredibly well in terms of pure numbers, but because our league is head to head we’ve been getting screwed out of doing as well as we should be (basically we’re both looking to win now but not at the expense of our young keepers)
