Mike Clevinger traded to the San Diego Padres

The Padres are going for it all in 2020, and they gave up a large haul to Cleveland in order to acquire the front-end ace through 2022. This rotation also features Chris Paddack and Dinelson Lamet. That’s a quality starting three for any postseason, and there’s also quality veterans in Zach Davies and Garrett Richards.

If the Padres make a deep postseason run, it reads like it’s worth it, given that they didn’t give up any of MacKenzie Gore, C.J. Abrams, Luis Patiño or Luis Campusano to get there.

As for Clevinger, he leaves an Indians team that ranks 23rd in runs scored (142) for a Padres team that ranks first (205). He’s also out from under the yoke of Cleveland, who were between a rock and a hard place after he violated the league’s COVID-19 protocols.

If you’re a Clevinger owner, you’ve got a new lease on life...hopefully he can keep his head on straight in San Diego.
