The Oakland Athletics have traded middle infielder Jorge Mateo to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later.
Here’s how you know baseball is back: We’ve got a trade — and a player to be named later!

The San Diego Padres are acquiring middle infielder Jorge Mateo from the Oakland A’s for a PTBNL, sources tell me and @kileymcd.
Fantasy Impact
Jorge Mateo is obviously added depth to the Padres as they have Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. locked in at middle infield...and also Jurickson Profar. Mateo brings speed and speed and a bit more speed to the basepaths and is a good add to the Padres system. He should have a slightly better pathway to playing time in San Diego, where he should do battle with Profar to see who can snag the lion’s share of duties at the keystone. We’ll have to wait to see who the other player is in the trade.
