This morning's Star-Telegram reports the Rangers may have submitted the winning bid for Japan's Daisuke Matsuzaka.
A baseball official with knowledge of the process said Thursday that the Rangers have made a major bid for the 26-year-old Japanese right-handed pitcher, perhaps close to $30 million, and that the Rangers have a chance to win exclusive negotiating rights.
But from ESPN's Buster Olney, there is this tidbit (in addition to some great stuff on JD Drew's possible landing spots. Sorry subscription-only):
One bit of speculation heard yesterday -- and it was nothing more than speculation -- was that maybe Boston had made an enormous bid, in the range of $45 million
'nuff said.
