Fantasy football 12-team, PPR mock draft: Picking #9 overall

Mocking a fantasy football draft with the 9th overall pick.

With fantasy drafts ever present in the not too distant future, I want to start running a few mock drafts here on Fake Teams and see how things are playing out currently. It’s one thing to write and read a bunch of fantasy football content and rankings, it’s a whole other thing to actually get in the thick of a draft.

I plan on doing a few of these over the coming weeks using FantasyPros’ mock draft platform. This is a PPR, 12-team snake draft for those keeping track at home.

Last week I picked number five overall and went heavy on early running backs and really liked how my squad turned out with Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs, and Chris Carson headlining my backs.

This week I’m picking 9th overall as voted by you dear readers. Here’s how the draft played out for me:

1.09 Julio JonesI had the choice between Jones and Davante Adams and since I’ve already picked Adams before I went with Jones. Certainly not complaining as hot diggity Jones could very easily finish WR1 this year in PPR.

2.04 Lamar JacksonWith no one on the board who I really loved, I decided to go big at QB and take the best quarterback and a top 10 running back all in one neat little package.

3.09 Odell Beckham Jr. I refuse to believe Beckham won’t have a bounce back season this year.

4.04 Clyde Edwards-Helaire Obviously a risky pick to have as my RB1 but if CEH does get the starting gig and the predominate work in KC, he could pretty easily finish a top 10 PPR back.

5.09 David Johnson I actually love getting DJ in the 5th. He’s the clear back in Houston and I think his pass catching abilities are going to be on full display this year (if there is a year).

6.04 Michael Gallup People are sleeping on Gallup this year, I promise you that.

7.09 Anthony Miller Yes I’m putting faith in either Mitchel Trubisky or Nick Foles but Miller was a solid fantasy contributor last year when he was on the field.

8.04 Kareem Hunt In these mocks I try to refrain from picking the same players, but I can’t pass on Hunt sitting in the 8th round.

9.09 Ronald Jones Jones has been getting a bunch of pub recently about starting the season as the Buccaneers’ number one back. Even if it’s short lived, I’ll take a potential RB1 in the 9th round.

10.04 Golden TateTate is one of my favorite late round targets. I think he’s going to led the Giants in targets and receptions this year.

11.09 Hayden Hurst Went early at tight end but got a guy who I think could be a top 5 tight end given the potential workload he’s stepping into.

12.04 Zach Moss — Me thinks Zach Moss is going to be a big contributor for the Bills this year.

13.09 Hunter Renfrow Renfrow might be a target MONSTER in Las Vegas this year.
