Tournament Information:

WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational
Date: July 30th – Aug 2nd
Course: TPC Southwind
Purse: $6.6MM ($1.2MM to winner)
FedEx points: 550 to winner
2019 Winner: Brooks Koepka (-16)

Course

TPC Southwind - Established in 1988, this 7,240 yard part 70 course was designed by Ron Prichard. One of the more woodsy courses, the Memphis prize has a bucolic mixture of trees, rivers, lakes and wildlife. It is known most for its 11th hole which mimics the 17th island green at TPC Sawgrass. Accuracy means much more than power and distance at Southwind.

My Starting 4

Webb Simpson (3rd selection this year) — Simpson’s last tour was the Memorial where he missed the cut, but he is one of the best on tour to rebound after missing a cut. His previous six missed cuts showed him rebounding with 1st, 56th, 47th, 10th, 5th and 4th place finishes. He finished 2nd here last year and he’s 7th on the tour in total strokes gained.

Billy Horschel (1st selection this year) — Horschel has two top 10 finishes here over the last three years. He comes in with back to back top 15 finishes at the Workday Charity and Memorial Tournament. He’s 22nd in total strokes gained and 30th in strokes gained putting

Chez Reavie (2nd selection this year) — Chez has finished in the top 30 here each of the last three years. He comes in having made four consecutive cuts including a 17th place at Workday Charity and 22nd at the Memorial. He’s 6th on the tour in driving accuracy and 26th on strokes gained around the green.

Brooks Koepka (2nd selection this year) — Koepka just barely missed the cut last week and when I say just barely I mean he was the last one cut. Now he comes to WGC where he is one of two golfers to have top 30 finishes each of the last three years including a win last year.

My Bench 2

Rafa Cabrera Bello (1st selection this year) — Cabrera Bello has been golfing hot and cold lately: His last six tournaments include three missed cuts and three finishes in the 20s and 30s. He is comfortable at TPC Southwind with two top 15 finishes in the last three years here. He’s 59th in driving accuracy and 3rd on the tour in distances from 50-75 yards from the green.

Henrik Stenson (1st selection this year) — Stenson finished in the top 30 here each of the last two years. This is his first tournament back since the break so we shall see how he does. He missed the last cut prior to the stoppage at the Players Championship

Fun Fact: This course is quite close to the FedEx headquarters which is in Memphis, TN.
