Welcome to baseball! Each week this season, I’m going to be dropping a hitting streamer article, giving you the best (and worst) hitters to target for the following week. Here are the teams you should be looking to get your hitting from this week:
The Numbers Game
21 of the 30 teams play 10 games during this period. Six teams (Astros, Athletics, Brewers, Pirates, Twins, and White Sox) play nine times. Three teams (Cardinals, Rangers and Rockies) have a minor disadvantage with only eight games. The Rockies only get three of the eight games at Coors. As for the Rangers, they open the season with five games in their new home, Globe Life Field. Their new park is rumored to be more pitcher-friendly compared to the hitter's haven that was Globe Life Park. The Rangers finish the first scoring period with a three-game set at the Giants. Fade fringy options on the Rockies and Rangers to start the year.
The Reds stand out as a team that should start out hot. They face the Tigers six times and have a total of seven home games. Nick Castellanos revenge week? I think, yes! Shogo Akiyama, Nick Senzel, and even Joey Votto deserve a look.
The Phillies have a solid start with four lefties on the projected docket. Rhys Hoskins and Scott Kingery are solid plays. Other lefty-mashers with favorable Week 1 schedules include J.D. Davis, Kyle Schwarber, and Franmil Reyes. Schwarber gets the added benefit of playing DH. He could be in for a huge season with a great opportunity to start getting momentum early.
The Braves, Red Sox, Cubs, Mets, and Yankees all face a favorable schedule in terms of catchers to run on. Want to start your year off with a few cheap steals? Give the speedsters on these teams a look. Ian Happ, Amed Rosario, and Dansby Swanson come to mind.
Fade! Fade! Fade!
In addition to the previously mentioned Rockies and Rangers, other teams to fade in Week 1 include the Angels, Blue Jays, Diamondbacks, Giants, and Pirates. Aside from the must-start players on these teams, I'd look to bench the questionable starters at least in Week 1.
