Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Mike Leake is opting out of the 2020 MLB season.
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Mike Leake is the first known major league player to opt out of the 2020 season, sources tell ESPN.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) June 29, 2020
Leake was positioned to be fighting for a spot at the back end of the Diamondbacks' rotation. @SteveGilbertMLB first said Leake was opting out.
Leake was battling to be in the backend of the Diamondbacks’ rotation so his missing of the 2020 season means Merrill Kelly and Luke Weaver will likely be locking down the back of the rotation. While not the biggest name, Leake being the first could mean we’re about to see more players opting out of the 2020 season.
