I’ll stop you right now - if you are looking for TOTAL DYNASTY RANKINGS, this is not for you. This article is somewhat niche in nature, and yet the deeper I dive into the Fantasy Baseball world each year the more I see tons of leagues that are structured this way.
If you are in a dynasty or keeper league, then each year you go through a subsequent draft with all of the new prospects who entered into the pool via the draft from the past year—as well as the international signing period. In addition to that, especially this past year, there might be a prospect who NO ONE saw play, but over the last month or two some scouts have been impressed with his physical conditioning and work he did in preparation for this upcoming season. In those situations, the draft would also be a time to pick up a deeper prospect who has moved up the rankings in a considerable fashion.
If you are in these leagues you know that this is as much an art as it is science. You are trying to project a number of players who could be 4-5 years out from playing in the big leagues. Quite often the #1 pick becomes the #1 pick (see Spencer Torkelson) but anyone who drafted in these leagues in 2017 (for the 2016 Baseball draft) when Mickey Monica went first, saw him slip quite a bit (deservedly so) in the drafts. That was a tricky draft, as Nick Senzel and Corey Ray got a bit of love but it was not really a strong class. Other years like 2020 you have Andrew Vaughn grabbed high...and here we are a year later and he might get some serious playing time in the big leagues.
Below are the first 30 picks that occurred across three of the leagues that I am involved with, to help you in any drafts you might have this year.
