With fantasy drafts ever present in the not too distant future, I want to start running a few mock drafts here on Fake Teams and see how things are playing out currently. It’s one thing to write and read a bunch of fantasy football content and rankings, it’s a whole other thing to actually get in the thick of a draft.
I plan on doing a few of these over the coming weeks using FantasyPros’ mock draft platform. This is a PPR, 12-team snake draft for those keeping track at home.
I’m starting with the 3rd overall pick because it offers you the top of the draft while still eliminating some of the players for you and making you make a choice which of the top four backs you want to ride with for the year.
Here’s how the draft played out for me:
- QB Cam Newton NE (Round 13)
- RB Ezekiel Elliott DAL (Round 1)
- RB Leonard Fournette JAC (Round 2)
- WR Odell Beckham Jr. CLE (Round 3)
- WR Calvin Ridley ATL (Round 4)
- WR Terry McLaurin WAS (Round 5)
- TE T.J. Hockenson DET (Round 12)
- DST Denver Broncos (Round 15)
- K Justin Tucker BAL (Round 14)
- BN Brandin Cooks HOU (Round 6)
- BN Kareem Hunt CLE (Round 7)
- BN Ke’Shawn Vaughn TB (Round 8)
- BN CeeDee Lamb DAL (Round 9)
- BN Tevin Coleman SF (Round 10)
- BN Marlon Mack IND (Round 11)
I’m thrilled to start my draft off with Elliott and Fournette. Elliott obviously has RB1 potential and I think Fournette could be a top 8 running back pretty easily this year (wrote more about him here). After that, invested in my wide receiver position snagging Odell who I’m certain is a top 5 receiver lock this year and Ridley I’ve been aboard the hype train since it first entered the station. McLaurin in the 5th round was also a delightful get given that he’s really the only weapon in Washington’s passing game and he and Dwayne Haskins started to figure each other out at the end of last year. That’s REAL encouraging.
I probably went a little too running back heavy filling out my bench but there were a lot of names I had a hard time passing on. Hunt I love this year (especially in PPR) and Vaughn has so much potential to me that I couldn’t pass it up. I also needed to invest in the Cowboys passing game and was thrilled to get me some CeeDee Lamb.
Waited on tight end and quarterback as long as I could and can’t complain about landing Hockenson (who I think could take a big step forward in year two) and my new favorist player in the whole damn world Cam Newton in the 13th round.
What are your thoughts on the mock? Drop them in the comments. Like I said at the top, I’m going to be doing more of these, so vote in the poll which pick I should do next.
