ICYMI: Justin Rose wins the FedEx Cup

A big week for Golf

A lot going on these weekends with the end of Golf and womens soccer, upcoming end in NASCAR, starting up NHL and NBA and the ever present football.

Golf

  • Justin Rose adds to his impressive list of accomplishments: 22 career wins, a US Open major victory, a gold medal at the Rio De Janeiro Olympics and now the 2018 FedEx Cup.
  • Tiger Woods wins his first PGA event since August 2013.

NFL (Week 3)

  • Matt Ryan threw for 5 TDs, Patrick Mahomes has the record for most TDs through first 3 weeks in an NFL season, Andy Dalton threw four interceptions and no QB threw for over 400 yards this week after we had three QBs do it in Week 1 and 2.
  • Christian McCaffrey had a career high 184 rushing yards, Ezekiel Elliott, Adrian Peterson, Todd Gurley, Chris Carson and Kerryon Johnson all had over 100 yards.
  • Your top 3 wide receivers: Jordy Nelson, Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd all over 130 yards with at least 1 TD.
  • The Bills pulled an upset over Minnesota, the Lions upset the Patriots (who are now 1-2), Jimmy Garoppolo is likely out for the season, the Dolphins are 3-0, there were no touchdowns thrown in the Titans vs. Jaguars game, and the Giants upset the Texans who are now 0-3.

MLB (96% of the way into the season)

  • The Rockies and Dodgers are battling out for the last remaining playoff spot, Cleveland Indians are the first team with four 200k pitchers,
  • Christian Yelich with 10 runs, 10 RBIs and 4 SB Slugging .814 over the last fourteen days. Justin Verlander still dominating with 2 wins, 1.35 ERA and 16 K/BB across the last 20 IP.
  • Didi Gregorius likely out for the year, Kris Bryant with shoulder pain, Beltre has a potential farewell in Texas.

NASCAR (South Point 400)

  • Kyle Busch wins at Richmond after starting in the 2nd to last spot.
  • Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr., Chase Elliott and Aric Almora rounded out the top five.

Soccer

EPL (Week 6)

NWSL – (We have a Champion)

MLS (88% of the way into the season)

  • Wins by Atlanta, Columbus, LAFC, ties from New York Red Bulls and New York FC, a loss from Kansas City.

Boxing

  • Anthony Joshua wins in 7th round over Alexander Povetkin. He keeps his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles with the win.

NHL (Preseason)

  • Max Domi punched first overall pick Aaron Ekblad and was suspended the remainder of the preseason.
  • Islanders, Bruins, Blues and Golden Knights leading their respective divisions in preseason.
  • Along with notable names, Jonathan Marchessault and John Tavares, Sammy Bials (Blues), Dillon Dube (Flames) and Ty Rattle (Oilers) co-lead preseason with four goals each.

UFC (Fight Night in Sao Paulo Brazil)

  • Thiago Santos beats Eryk Anders through TKO in the third round.
  • Alex Oliveira beat Carlo Pedersoli in first round TKO.

College

  • National Women’s Hockey League to host exhibition game with Minnesota-Duluth.
  • Women’s Volleyball: OSU upset #4 Penn State and #5 UNC upset by Clemson in Womens soccer,
  • College Football: #23 Boston College upset by Purdue; TCU upset by Texas; Stanford Rallies to beat Oregon in Overtime.
