What it is -€” in effort to provide some talented players to the brand new Las Vegas Golden Knights hockey team, teams will provide a list of players that the Las Vegas Golden Knights can select from.

How it works:
On Saturday, the 30 NHL teams will select their lists of (either 9 or 10 players) who will be protected.
On Sunday Las Vegas must select 1 player from each of the 30 NHL teams.

Three rules go beyond this:
1. 20 of the players must be under contract for next season
2. They have to pick 14 forwards, 9 defensemen and 3 goalies
3. The total salary amount must be above 60 percent and below 100 percent of the salary cap limit set by the NHL.

From the 30 NHL teams they can do two formats for saving their skaters:
1. 7 forwards, 3 defenseman and a goalie
2. 8 players and a goalie.
-Any player who has a no movement clause must be included in the protected players (and you will see a lot of teams asking players to waive these terms).
-Any player who was injured for over 60 days is exempt.
-Finally -€” any player with less than 3 years of professional experience is automatically exempt from being selected.

A few players who could see stock rising with a move:
James Neal the Stanley Cup losers have a great core roster built and James Neal, one time 40 goal scorer, might be the odd man out for the Predators protection. He would be Las Vegas's best pure scorer instantly.

Vladislav Namestnikov. Despite his rather pedestrian 28 point 2016-2017 season, his talent and raw abilities are tough to pass up, he barely passes the experience threshold giving Vegas a good young player to work along the laundry list of older mature players they are likely to acquire.

David Perron.   46 points with the Blues who will have an intriguing selection of players having few stars in lieu of just a mass of above average players. David has a history of 35+point seasons and could be a quality add.

Ryan Dzingel -€” I can't saw enough about the star power he can possess, if he moves, he instantly becomes a top 6 player for them.

Jimmy Howard. The Red Wings have two goalies who worked a hot cold tandem, it looks like Howard will be the odd man out, if Vegas takes Marc-Andre they will admittedly be less enthusiastic about Jimmy Howard but it's an option.

Marc-Andre Fleury has agreed to waive his clause and seems ready to accept the move. I imagine the Golden Knights would salivate at a #1 overall pick and three time Stanley Cup winning goalie despite the age.
