The Oakland Athletics have signed closer Trevor Rosenthal to a one-year deal.
Closer Trevor Rosenthal and the Oakland A’s are in agreement on a one-year, $11M contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) February 18, 2021
Rosenthal had been seeking a four-year contract originally. Reliever market cratered and he gets one with deferred money. @JonHeyman was first.
After letting Liam Hendriks leave in free agency, the A’s needed to add a closer to the roster and that’ll likely be Rosenthal. Last year, between the San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals, Rosenthal had 11 saves and a 1.90 ERA. Rest in piece to all your early Jake Diekman shares—he’s now looking like the setup man for the Athletics.
