Track
New Hampshire Motor Speedway: Opened in 1990, this 1 mile asphalt/granite oval surnamed the “Magic Mile” has a 12 degree banking. It isn’t the type of course that drivers open up and require restrictors but it does allow a steady move and turn with it that will test drivers ability to keep slight fluctuations vs. other courses where it’s more stop and start. The best comparison track would be Darlington.
Favorites
Denny Hamlin (5th selection this year) — Hamlin won last week at Kansas. He has top 10 finishes three of the last five years here. The two other years he was 12th and 13th. Oh and Darlington which is somewhat similar to New Hampshire in shape and distance Denny won at earlier this year.
Kevin Harvick (6th selection this year) — Back to back wins here. In case that’s not good enough he has finished in the top five in six consecutive races.
High Risk/High Reward
Ryan Blaney (6th selection this year) — Blaney has progressively gotten better each year here since 2017 (14) to 2018 (7th) to 2019 (4th). He’s currently 3rd in the Cup Series.
Martin Truex Jr. (4th selection this year) — Truex finished 6th at Darlington earlier this year, he finished 3rd at Kansas last week and he finished 6th here last year.
The Dark Horse
Matt Kenseth (4th selection this year) — Kenseth has three top five finishes across the last four times he raced at New Hampshire. He’s coming to form this season with top 20 finishes in five of his last six races.
Fun Fact: In 2009 Joey Logano became the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a race here (19years, 1 month and 4 days).
