Fantasy Hockey 2012: Saturday Starting Backup Goalies

Brian Boucher, Hurricanes vs. Matt Hackett, Wild - Boucher has had 11 career starts against the Wild and has only accounted for 4 wins with a shutout in one of them. On the other side, Hackett has never played against the Canes in his career. With the Wild struggling hard and Canes struggling less so, I wouldn't recommend playing either goalie in this match-up unless you're in a deeper league looking for goalie help.

Dwayne Roloson, Lightning vs. Blues - Roloson has done a pretty good job in 17 starts against the Blues but like I've said before, these are not the Blues of old. They are playing well lately so I would tread carefully on starting Rolo unless you need the start.

Al Montoya, Islanders vs. Peter Budaj, Canadiens - Montoya started well earlier this season but has fallen away since then. He's only played one start against the Habs and lost. With the Islanders struggling too, I wouldn't recommend playing Montoya today. UPDATE Budaj has surprisingly only started twice against the Islanders and he didn't do well either time. Still, he's a risky play at best since he's matched up against a hapless Islanders team.

UPDATE

Steve Mason, Blue Jackets vs. Cory Schneider, Canucks - For Mason, at least we get to see if his new gear has truly helped him be a better goalie against a strong team like the 'Nucks or if he'll fall more in line with his 11 career starts: ugly. For Schneider, he's done a good job against the Jackets in five career starts. If you have him in a deeper league, give him a shot.

NO NEWS

Kings - No news on who's favored to start tonight against the Predators between Jonathan Quick or Jonathan Bernier since it's a late game.

Check back before 7 pm EST for any updates on other backup goalies starting tonight!
