We are past the quarter pole of the season, whether you’re normal (championship in Week 16) or the next unidentified subject for the BAU team to hunt down (championship in Week 17).
Bye weeks have also commenced, so we won’t have Atlanta (Matt Ryan), New Orleans Saints (Jameis Winston), New York Jets (Zach Wilson), or the San Francisco 49ers (Trey Lance/Jimmy G) at our disposal. And be honest, you don’t spell out “Jimmy G’s” last name unless you absolutely have to do so. I think it’s “Garoppolo.” Moving on.
Oh, and we’re also down one Russell Wilson (ruptured tendon) so it’s Geno Smith getting the nod for Seattle. Yikes.
You know the drill. Besides the rankings, you’ll get some news and/or notes below. Chime in with what you think is the most egregious error in said rankings, below.
QB Rankings for Week 6
Rank | Player Name | Team | Opponent | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Rank | Player Name | Team | Opponent | Notes |
1 | Patrick Mahomes | KC | @ WAS | WAS have allowed 14 passing TDs (2nd most) and the sixth-most yardage to enemy QBs. Not a matchup to fear. |
2 | Josh Allen | BUF | @ TEN | BOOM matchup for Allen, whose 35 rush attempts rank third behind only Lamar (56) and Hurts (43). |
3 | Lamar Jackson | BAL | vs LAC | He's averaging over 11 runs per game, more than Kareem Hunt, Saquon Barkley, and D'Andre Swift (to name a few). |
4 | Kyler Murray | ARI | @ CLE | Tough matchup on the road. |
5 | Tom Brady | TB | @ PHI | He leads the NFL in passing yardage (1,767) and is second in TD passes (15, one behind Mahomes). |
6 | Jalen Hurts | PHI | vs TB | On the season, here are his weekly ranks at the QB position: 6, 10, 9, 4, 7. |
7 | Matthew Stafford | LAR | @ NYG | Rumors of Robert Woods' demise were overstated. The Rams should roll the GMen. |
8 | Justin Herbert | LAC | vs BAL | He's the QB4 on the season. Only Mahomes and Brady have more TD passes. |
9 | Dak Prescott | DAL | @ NE | 13 scores against only three picks...tough matchup on the road by the numbers. |
10 | Aaron Rodgers | GB | @ CHI | Aside from a rough start against New Orleans, he's been either a top 12 QB or a high-end streamer. |
11 | Joe Burrow | CIN | @ DET | The DET 8.6 NY/A is tied for second-worst in the NFL, after only the Jags (8.8). Great matchup for Burrow, who is healthy after last week's scary throat injury. |
12 | Sam Darnold | CAR | vs MIN | Tough game last time against PHI, but he should get back to taking advantage of soft matchups in this one. |
13 | Trevor Lawrence | JAC | vs. MIA | Nonthreatening matchup. The Dolphins have allowed 12 scores (2 INTs) and tons of yardage. Lawrence also has two straight games with a rushing score, and is coming off of a QB9 finish last week. |
14 | Taylor Heinicke | WAS | vs KC | Another matchup to exploit--you have to like the volume associated with chasing Pat Mahomes and company. |
15 | Carson Wentz | IND | vs HOU | The matchup means he gets a huge boost, but how much of a fight will Houston put up? |
16 | Kirk Cousins | MIN | @ CAR | I like his floor (SLIGHTLY) over Daniel Jones' volatility. |
17 | Daniel Jones | NYG | vs. LAR | Tough matchup but he can explode any given week with his running ability. |
18 | Ben Roethlisberger | PIT | vs. SEA | Great matchup but how much of a fight will Geno Smith put up? |
19 | Tua Tagovailoa | MIA | @ JAC | I'm going right after this Jaguars matchup with Tua in two-QB leagues (if he plays). |
20 | Baker Mayfield | CLE | vs. ARI | He had a QB8 finish against LAC last week, his first week tossing for more than one touchdown. |
21 | Derek Carr | LV | @ DEN | It's a tough road matchup, but there aren't tons of QB options this week with so many on byes. |
22 | Teddy Bridgewater | DEN | vs. OAK | You attack OAK on the ground, not the air. But Teddy has been a consistent QB2 option most of the year. |
23 | Mac Jones | NE | vs. DAL | DAL has a league-leading (and stunning) 10 INTs. |
24 | Ryan Tannehill | TEN | vs. BUF | Yikes at this matchup and Tanny has been a big disappointment all year. |
25 | Jared Goff | DET | vs CIN | He's been @ CHI and @ MIN in the last two weeks...hopefully getting back home helps his QB2 status. |
26 | Justin Fields | CHI | vs. GB | He's just not going to get a lot of volume...not when backup running backs are being ridden into the ground instead. |
27 | Davis Mills | HOU | @ IND | He tossed three scores last week against New England. |
28 | Geno Smith | SEA | @ PIT | Russell Wilson is shelved. Good luck... |
