Fantasy football 12-team, PPR mock draft: Picking #12 overall

Mocking a fantasy football draft with the 12th overall pick.

With fantasy drafts ever present in the not too distant future, I want to start running a few mock drafts here on Fake Teams and see how things are playing out currently. It’s one thing to write and read a bunch of fantasy football content and rankings, it’s a whole other thing to actually get in the thick of a draft.

I plan on doing a few of these over the coming weeks using FantasyPros’ mock draft platform. This is a PPR, 12-team snake draft for those keeping track at home.

Last week I started with the 3rd overall pick and ended up with a squad I would be THRILLED to call my own. I don’t want to brag, but damn it turned out real good.

I asked you guys what pick I should draft next from and there was a tie between 7th, 8th, and 12th. I went with 12th because I want to see how good can your team be if you’re stuck with the last pick of the draft (but also first pick in snake!)

Here’s how the draft played out for me:

  • QB Aaron Rodgers GB (RD12)
  • RB Miles Sanders PHI (RD1)
  • RB Austin Ekeler LAC (RD2)
  • WR A.J. Brown TEN (RD3)
  • WR Stefon Diggs BUF (RD5)
  • WR Marvin Jones Jr. DET (RD6)
  • TE Evan Engram NYG (RD7)
  • DST New England Patriots (RD14)
  • K Younghoe Koo ATL (RD15)
  • BN Le’Veon Bell NYJ (RD4)
  • BN Christian Kirk ARI (RD8)
  • BN Henry Ruggs III LV (RD9)
  • BN N’Keal Harry NE (RD10)
  • BN Sammy Watkins KC (RD11)
  • BN Adrian Peterson WAS (RD13)

I think both Miles Sanders and Austin Ekeler will be top 10 fantasy backs this year, but there’s also a bit of risk with each of then. Sanders is the safest but you never know if Doug Pederson is going to get another running back in Philly to take touches from Sanders. Ekeler was incredible last year but that level of production is not likely to repeat itself and there’s a big drop off between Philip Rivers and Tyrod Taylor. That’s why I took Le’Veon Bell with my 4th round pick. I know you can’t trust Adam Gase, but Bell had a down year last year by his standards and was still a top 15 PPR back. Plus, if rumors are true and he does get traded if the Jets suck this year, then hopefully he’ll go to a team that actually will use him properly.

I then focused entirely on wide receiver with a healthy mix of top locks and risky picks. I consider A.J. Brown and Marvin Jones Jr. top locks as well as Sammy Watkins has a reliable high floor. Stefon Diggs could be a top 5 fantasy receiver if everything clicks for him in Buffalo. Kirk, Ruggs, and Harry all have risk to them, but they could be really solid fantasy names. I have especially high hopes for Ruggs and Harry.

Evan Engram has my heart in a box and will never let it out. I won’t give up on him.

Also, don’t sleep on Adrian Peterson not being mortal.

What are your thoughts on the mock? Drop them in the comments. Like I said at the top, I’m going to be doing more of these, so vote in the poll which pick I should do next.
