Early 2020 Fantasy Football Rankings: Quarterbacks

An early look at the quarterback position for 2020.

As what we assume will be the NFL season draws ever nearer, so too does the start of fantasy football. With that, I’m going to drop my early rankings for each position this week, starting with the quarterbacks.

In my mind there is a clear top three this year in Lamar Jackson, Dak Prescott, and Patrick Mahomes. If you want to draft a quarterback high, those three guys are the names you take. Kyler Murray isn’t a bad option either, though I’m only like 85% certain he’ll finish a top 5 QB this year.

If you’re like me and want to wait for your quarterback, there are plenty of names who I think have plenty of upside who are going deep in drafts. I’ve already written about Jimmy Garoppolo and I’m also a big fan of Joe Burrow and Kirk Cousins as guys who seem like a safe bet to be top 15 contributors.

In the way back of drafts, don’t sleep on Teddy Bridgewater who has a lot of talent around him in Carolina and Drew Lock certainly has people excited (though I’m not sold quite yet on him).

I’m drafting Cam Newton with the last pick in every single one of my drafts, let it be known.

Who am I too high on? Who am I too low on? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

2020 QB rankings

Rank Quarterback Team Notes
Rank Quarterback Team Notes
1 Lamar Jackson BAL Lamar may see positive regression in his rushing touchdown numbers which would make him even more of a fantasy super star.
2 Dak Prescott DAL Dak could easily lead the NFL in passing touchdowns this year with 5+ rushing touchdowns thrown in for good measure.
3 Patrick Mahomes KC Mahomes and Dak are really 2A and 2B for me. I’m breaking in Dak’s favor because of his rushing floor.
4 Kyler Murray ARI I have high hopes for Kyler this year and so does the rest of the fantasy world which is a bummer because its bumping him out of my price range.
5 Russell Wilson SEA Wilson has constantly been a solid fantasy QB and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
6 Deshaun Watson HOU Losing DeAndre Hopkins is obviously a big blow to Watson’s ceiling but I still have faith that he’ll be able to put up numbers without Nuk.
7 Josh Allen BUF I don’t think he’s a great QB at the moment, but with more weapons and a high rushing floor, Allen’s fantasy value is always high.
8 Aaron Rodgers GB Forget what the Packers want you to think, the Aaron Rodgers F U tour is coming.
9 Matt Ryan ATL Matty Ice quietly puts up numbers year in and year out.
10 Matthew Stafford DET If healthy, Matt Stafford could easily finish a top 5 fantasy QB this year.
11 Tom Brady TB This is the most talented passing group Brady’s likely ever had and even at 43 years old, he’ll be able to take advantage of it.
12 Carson Wentz PHI This is my final year of believing that Wentz can be a top fantasy option.
13 Drew Brees NO Maybe I’m too low on Brees, but I’m worried that we’re about to see a sudden cliff from him this year.
14 Jimmy Garoppolo SF I’ve already gone on record saying Jimmy G could be a top 10 QB this year so I’m backing it up ranking him in the top 15.
15 Kirk Cousins MIN Cousins has been a top 15 quarterback in each of the last five years. That’ll continue into 2020.
16 Joe Burrow CIN The Bengals have weapons and Joe Burrow was freaking amazing at LSU last year. Let’s see what the kid can do.
17 Baker Mayfield CLE I wanted to put Baker higher but I need to temper my expectations after what we saw last year. Still, he’s someone with a high ceiling if everything breaks right for him.
18 Daniel Jones NYG People have been hyping up Jones this year as a sleeper and I’m not quite sold yet.
19 Ben Roethlisberger PIT Ben Roethlisberger is going to miss five games at the end of the season and sink your fantasy team. Trust me.
20 Philip Rivers IND Rivers will be better in Indy playing half his games in a dome and behind a MUCH better offensive line.
21 Jared Goff LAR There’s hope Goff looks more like the Goff we saw in 2018 but there’s also a chance this offense just isn’t the same without a running game as potent as prime Todd Gurley.
22 Ryan Tannehill TEN If what we saw end of last year is the Tannehill we’re getting in 2020, he’ll be a top 10 QB easily. I’m just not sold that’s really Tannehill.
23 Teddy Bridgewater CAR Bridgewater plays to the talent around him and the Panthers have plenty of weapons for him to take advantage of this year.
24 Gardner Minshew II JAC We know who Minshew is and his mustache is glorious. He’s a safe QB2 in my book.
25 Derek Carr LV I understand how boring Carr is but he might surprise people with the numbers he could put up this year with more weapons around him.
26 Drew Lock DEN Show me something Drew Lock.
27 Sam Darnold NYJ GET SAM DARNOLD AWAY FROM ADAM GASE PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
28 Tua Tagovailoa MIA Tua is going to start within the first four weeks of the season.
29 Dwayne Haskins WAS There's not a ton of talent in Washington for Haskins to pass to outside of Scary Terry.
30 Justin Herbert LAC I think Herbert wins the starting job early into the season and he’ll have plenty of growing pains
31 Jarrett Stidham NE I mean, this Patriots offense has to score points right?
32 Ryan Fitzpatrick MIA Fitzmagic will play four games and then be done for the season.
33 Nick Foles CHI I have Z E R O faith in Mitchell Trubisky.
34 Tyrod Taylor LAC Don’t think Tyrod sees the field that much this year.
35 Cam Newton FA I would happily draft Cam Newton over Mitchell Trubisky in fantasy drafts. Am I crazy? Probably.
