Fantasy football drafts are all about maximizing value at each spot, whether that means reaching for your guy or picking that stud who looks to be falling for no obvious reason. In this series, I’ve taken a look at groups of 3 players with similar current ADPs and have selected the one I’d be picking if it was me on the clock.
Which wide receiver are you taking at the back end of the fourth round: Tyler Boyd (4.11), Stefon Diggs (4.11) or A.J. Brown (5.01)
I’m drafting: A.J. Brown
I’m all about AJ Brown’s upside and a continuation of an end to last season that saw him finish with an average of 21.3 points per game over the last six weeks of the season. Brown was not a prolific receiver, making hay with just 52 catches in 2019, though he did lead the Titans in targets with 76 and should start 2020 as Ryan Tannehill’s number one option. Brown is a monster after the catch and can make plays in the backfield as well. A great potential WR1 at the start of the fifth round.
Tyler Boyd resumes his number two status in the Bengals receiving corps with A.J. Green returning for 2020. In Green’s absence Boyd performed well and finish 2019 as the WR18 with 13.9 points per game from 90 catches. The drafting of Tee Higgins in Round 2 this year means Boyd could see his targets reduce further reduce as they have 3 genuine threats for Joe Burrow to throw to. A solid WR2 but nowhere near Brown’s potential.
I really dislike the Diggs trade to Buffalo and looking at his ADP so far, other people are feeling the same. Diggs was drafted as the WR13 last season, though saw a huge drop off in targets and receptions from 2018, finishing as the WR24. Moving to Buffalo and the starting quarterback with the worst accuracy in the league does not bode well for Diggs to be any more than a WR2 on your roster in 2020. He has the route-running skills to make Josh Allen’s job easier, but its still going to be difficult for Diggs to a reliable fantasy receiver for you this year.
