Fantasy football drafts are all about maximizing value at each spot, whether that means reaching for your guy or picking that stud who looks to be falling for no obvious reason. In this new series, I’ve taken a look at groups of 3 players with similar current ADPs and have selected the one I’d be picking if it was me on the clock.
Which top wide receiver would you take in the middle of the first round: Davante Adams (1.06), Tyreek Hill (1.07), or Julio Jones (1.09)?
I’m drafting: Julio Jones
I don’t think you can go wrong with any of this group in 2020, but I’m taking Julio’s consistency over the upside potential of Adams and Hill. Julio Jones remains an absolute beast and when his production pretty much guarantees you 100 receptions, 1400 yards and 6 touchdowns, I will die on that Hill (no pun intended) every day. I’m taking this stance in all formats as even in dynasty, I can see at least three more years of solid production and have even traded a future first for Julio this year.
In terms of Hill and Adams, Hill was the WR1 in fantasy in 2018, but the Chiefs offense is so diverse I don’t see him hitting those numbers again, especially as they continue to add pieces to their offensive juggernaut. Hill missed four games due to injury but still finished with 15.6 PPG, good enough for the WR12.
Davante Adams is more of a threat to Julio, as the Packers didn’t do much to add to their passing game in the draft, making Adams likely to see well over 100 targets for the fifth straight season. However, the Packers also look to be making a shift to focus more on the run as they look to emulate the 49ers offense, which for me adds risk to Adams’ potential production in 2020 and gives the edge to Jones.
