It’s a strange time to be a baseball fan. Heck, it’s a strange time, period. Who knows when the season will begin? Who knows how long it will be? Will there be expanded (28-man) rosters? Expanded rosters could mean a shorter second Spring Training event, as more bodies would mean less of a need for pitchers to pitch deep into games from the onset—perhaps preventing injuries. This is just speculation on my part. Point is, a lot is up in the air.
One thing seems certain—whatever does happen, it won’t be business as usual. The MLB season is almost assured to be shortened, and with that comes a host of problems. Service time is a prickly issue, and I won’t pretend that I have an answer to that debacle. But I am currently leaning towards prospects who have a clearer pathway to playing time, and towards those who play for contenders. Maybe there’s a better process. If so, I don’t know it.
With all that in mind, I asked the stable of Fake Teams writers to give me their respective top prospects for 2020. That is, which prospects will produce the most for the coming season. We’re talking redraft value for 2020. This is not a typical “top prospect” list. If you want something more similar to that, Jonathan gave you his top 600 players for dynasty formats last week:
Okay, no further preamble. Here are our top 30 prospects for 2020. Be sure to yell at us in the comments. How else will we know who we are too high or low on?
