NFL Week 5 is here and it’s time to start ranking quarterbacks for fantasy football this week.
Dak Prescott’s outrageous weekly performances can no longer be ignored. He’s this week’s overall QB1. The back-fourth of the top 12 is populated by unheralded quarterbacks like Teddy Bridgewater, Gardner Minshew, and Justin Herbert—all three have exquisite match-ups. Carson Wentz takes his biggest tumble in the rankings thus far and Brett Rypien is in for a dreadful day against the Patriots.
Week 5’s Tiered Quarterback Rankings
Rank | High Floor/High Ceiling QB1s | Team | Opponent | Breakdown |
---|---|---|---|---|
Rank | High Floor/High Ceiling QB1s | Team | Opponent | Breakdown |
1 | Dak Prescott | DAL | NYG | With Dallas' defense giving out points like hot cakes, Dak's only option is to rack up gaudy point-totals. |
2 | Patrick Mahomes | KC | LV | Kansas City will want to distance itself on the scoreboard from a divisional opponent. |
3 | Russell Wilson | SEA | MIN | The Cook gets the NFL's worst secondary in Week 5. |
4 | Josh Allen | BUF | at TEN | Allen is neck and neck with Russell Wilson in the NFL MVP race. |
5 | Kyler Murray | ARI | at NYJ | Murray is running like 2019 Lamar Jackson did. |
6 | Lamar Jackson | BAL | CIN | Jackson should efficiently pummel Cincy's hapless defense. His box scores have underwhelmed though. |
7 | Matt Ryan | ATL | CAR | Incoming shootout. |
8 | Deshaun Watson | HOU | JAX | Watson's weekly enemy is his head coach. |
9 | Ben Roethlisberger | PIT | PHI | Two weeks to prep for Philly's ho-hum defense. |
10 | Teddy Bridgewater | CAR | at ATL | Bridgewater's match-up based ups and downs are remarkable. |
11 | Gardner Minshew | JAX | at HOU | Incoming shootout. |
12 | Justin Herbert | LAC | at NO | New Orlean's banged up defense should allow for a fruitful Week 5 outing. |
Rank | High Floor/High Ceiling QB2s | Team | Opponent | Breakdown |
13 | Tom Brady | TB | at CHI | Things are starting to click in Tampa Bay. |
14 | Jared Goff | LAR | at WAS | Sean McVay should be able to take advantage of Washington's weak secondary. |
15 | Derek Carr | LV | at KC | Carr will be forced to throw constantly in this one. |
16 | Kirk Cousins | MIN | at SEA | Seattle's fantasy friendly defense is on tap here. |
17 | Drew Brees | NO | LAC | The likely return of Michael Thomas, facing the banged up Chargers' defense bodes well for Brees' box score production. |
18 | Jimmy Garoppolo | SF | MIA | Great spot to get the offense humming. |
19 | Ryan Tannehill | TEN | BUF | Tough match-up but this offense has been very efficient. |
20 | Joe Burrow | CIN | at BAL | Burrow's rushing ability will be called upon to evade the pass rush in this one. |
21 | Ryan Fitzpatrick | MIA | at SF | Fitz's willingness to heave the ball, and his body in the run game, around always gives him a high ceiling. |
22 | Baker Mayfield | CLE | IND | Very tough match-up but his floor is concrete. |
23 | Daniel Jones | NYG | at DAL | The wheels are falling off, courtesy of Jason Garrett. Great match-up though. |
Rank | High Floor/Capped Ceiling QB2 | Team | Opponent | Breakdown |
24 | Philip Rivers | IND | at CLE | Rivers may be asked to do a little more than normal playing opposite of the up and coming Cleveland offense. |
Rank | Shaky Floor/Capped Ceiling QB3s | Team | Opponent | Breakdown |
25 | Carson Wentz | PHI | at PIT | Brutal match-up for a flailing offense. |
26 | Kyle Allen | WAS | LAR | Kyle Allen made his money by feeding CMC, D.J. Moore, and Greg Olsen last year. Expect the same for Antonio Gibson, Terry McLaurin, and Logan Thomas. |
27 | Brian Hoyer | NE | DEN | Hoyer will just game-manage. |
28 | Nick Foles | CHI | TB | Brutal match-up. |
29 | Brett Rypien | DEN | at NE | New England's defense will keep Rypien from letting it ryp. |
30 | Joe Flacco | NYJ | ARI | Flacco is impossible to start. |
