More Antonio Brown fallout: Patriots are trading WR Demaryius Thomas in the division to the NY Jets for a 2021 sixth-round pick, sources tell ESPN.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 10, 2019
For the Patriots this move makes sense simply because they can only have so many mouths to feed. With Brown, Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon and James White (plus a little bit of Phillip Dorsett, who still magically retains fantasy value) there’s only so many balls to go around. Trading Thomas gets them at least something in return, even if it is to a division rival. For the Jets, this puts a damper on Jamison Crowder averaging 17 targets a game. So that dream is dead. Thomas looked good during the preseason and still could have something to offer the Jets. After all, we’ve seen him in Adam Gase’s offense before and it led to three seasons of 1,400+ yards and 10+ touchdowns. Will we be seeing that again? I doubt it but you never know. Likely this move was made as Robby Anderson continues to make his way back from injury.
