The Streamer Report is a throwback to older days here at Fake Teams. It has been quite some time since we did such, but there’s no time like the present to wade back into the streaming waters.
Not meant to be an epic, the Streamer Report will provide you with a few starting pitcher selections and then call it a proverbial day. The criteria is starting pitchers who are 50% owned or less in Yahoo leagues. We’ll consider matchup, track record versus opponent, recent performance, and more.
Friday’s Streamers
Brad Keller (45% owned) at Detroit Tigers
The Tigers strike out 26.0% of the time against right-handed pitching, the third-highest rate in the MLB. The team’s .152 ISO ranks 28th in the MLB, and this a squad that traded Nick Castellanos and that is without Christin Stewart. Keller sneakily enough has a 3.95 ERA on the year, and is fresh off of handling the powerful Minnesota Twins pretty well (7.0 IP, 7 K, 2.57 ERA, 0.86 WHIP). You could definitely do much worse.
Gio Gonzalez (21% owned) vs. Texas Rangers
Gonzalez is another sneaky source of ratio help, with a 3.35 ERA and 1.18 WHIP on the season. Gonzalez got an early hook in his last turn, and isn’t a safe bet to log more than five or six innings. However, the Rangers strike out 26.3% of the time against lefties—so there is some upside here. Sure, the team .200 ISO (8th) is scary, but beggars can’t be choosers.
Drew Smyly (21% owned) at San Francisco Giants
Smyly struck out seven Chicago White Sox in his last turn, but he also allowed five runs on four hits over five innings. However, he faced these same Giants on July 30th, and twirled a gem—7 innings, 1 win, 5 strikeouts, 0.00 ERA, 0.71 WHIP. I’m inclined to give him one last turn as a streamer to see if he can recapture that magic he had when he was first traded to the Phillies.
That’s it for today! Who are you guys streaming? Who are you using in MLB DFS? Smyly sure does come cheap on DraftKings...just sayin’.
