Streamer Report for Friday 8/23: Folty, Plesac, Velasquez

Need pitching options for Friday? Sure you do!

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at Atlanta Braves Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Not meant to be an epic, the Streamer Report will provide you with three starting pitcher selections and then call it a proverbial day. The criteria is starting pitchers who are 50% owned or less in Yahoo leagues. We’ll consider matchup, track record versus opponent, recent performance, and more.

How did Tuesday’s streamers fare?

Michael Pineda: 7.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO, 2 HR
Steven Matz: 6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO, 1 HR, 1 W
Andrew Heaney: 8.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 14 SO, 1 HR, 1 W

Pretty beautiful day in the fake game and in real life. The Angels and Rangers made up the game that was postponed due to Tyler Skaggs’ passing, and Heaney twirls that sort of gem? You can’t write it any better than that. Awesome day.

Streamers vs. League Average

WHO ERA WHIP K/9 BB/9
WHO ERA WHIP K/9 BB/9
STREAMER STATS 4.58 ERA 1.28 WHIP 7.67 K/9 3.09 BB/9
LEAGUE AVERAGE 4.53 ERA 1.32 WHIP 8.54 K/9 2.96 BB/9

Ratios are beating the MLB average, and the K/9 and BB/9 both went in the right direction thanks to Tuesday.

Friday’s Streamers

Percentages were pulled Thursday evening. I imagine we are still under our 50% threshold.

RHP Mike Foltynewicz at NYM (42% owned)

Folty is ace-lite in my book, but the general populace doesn’t see it due to this year’s rocky start and ensuing demotion. His swinging strike rate is actually so far this year, to 11.1%. His weakness has been the home run, as a 2.27 HR/9 is ghastly. However, that number drops considerably when Folty is on the road, from 2.57 HR/9 at home to 1.89 HR/9 on the road. That number is also inflated by 11 May home runs, when Folty had a 3.06 HR/9. Since then, he has allowed three homers each in June and August. Folty’s hard contact rates are also dropping, if scope him out by month here are the marks: 48.1% (May), 39.7% (June), 32.7% (August). I like the locale at Citi Field today, even if the matchup against Jacob deGrom is imposing.

RHP Zach Plesac vs. KC (42% owned)

I’ll give Plesac a pass in his last turn at Yankee Stadium. Today he is a strong favorite at home, as the Indians will square off against Jakob Junis. The Royals are middling in strikeout rate against righties, at 22.0%. However, this is one of the lightest-hitting teams in the league against righty pitching, ranking 27th with a .156 ISO. Fire Plesac up at home today.

RHP Vince Velasquez at MIA (26% owned)

The Marlins are fresh off of being shut out by Julio Teheran and the mercurial Braves bullpen. If you don’t stream Vince V today, I don’t know when you can stream Vince. Like Folty, Velasquez’s weakness this year has been the home run, as VV is allowing a 2.02 HR/9 so far. However, that number drops from 2.25 to 1.89 on the road, and this road venue at Marlins Park should further aid Velasquez’s chances today. Velasquez allows more hard contact and fly balls than I would like to see, but his location today certainly mitigates the risk.

Let me know @HeathCapps who you think I missed, or who you are using instead!
