Welcome to our fantasy football wish lists where we’re going through each NFL team and listing three things we’d love to see them do this offseason for fantasy reasons (but also real football reasons).
Who’s ready for me to turn the 49ers into Super Bowl contenders? The Niners were everyone’s darling last year but then the season was sunk by Jimmy Garoppolo tearing his ACL, along with the hearts of every Niners fan. But I’m jumping back on the bandwagon this year and pronouncing the 49ers NFC favorites if they follow my three easy step plan to glory and greatness, starting with...
Trade for Antonio Brown right this second
Don’t let the fact that you haven’t heard the 49ers connected with Antonio Brown desway you from the undeniable truth that the Bay Area is where Brown will play in 2019. It just needs to be so. For the Steelers, this trade gets Brown out of the AFC; for the 49ers, this trade adds a Hall of Fame receiver to go along with your All-Pro tight end and young franchise quarterback who are ready to take the next step. Plus, just imagine how effective Brown would be in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. He might even be TOO effective! I can think of no better landing spot for Brown than the Niners and I’m going to just keep putting good vibes out into the world until this trade goes down (which might be sooner than we think).
Sign Earl Thomas
Richard Sherman had a good season for the 49ers but that’s about the only member of San Francisco’s 27th ranked pass defense (per DVOA) who deserves any kind of praise. Despite his age and injury history, Earl Thomas can still play football at a high level, as evidence by his three interceptions last year despite only playing four games. Adding Thomas would not only continue the Legion of Boom rebuild in SF—which, let the record show, I am all for—but also add a difference maker to a secondary that is severely lacking one.
Football Gods, bless Jimmy GQ with a full recovery
With guys like George Kittle, Marquise Goodwin, Dante Pettis, Jerick McKinnon (can’t forget about him) and Matt Bredia, this 49ers team could be a fantasy haven in 2019. (Especially if they read this article and immediately trade for Antonio Brown. I will take full credit if a Brown to the 49ers trade is announced to day. Full. Credit.) But much of that will ride on the newly constructed ACL of Jimmy G. Please Football and Fantasy Gods alike, I ask you bless Jimmy’s repaired ACL to be stronger than his old one and allow him to flourish in San Francisco and bring many people love and joy. Amen.
