Onto the mailbag:
Q: Ekeler or dion Lewis, non-ppr
— @doubleyoushaw
Austin Ekeler and not just because I have the whole Titans on the fantasy kibosh. The 49ers have given up the second most targets and fourth most receptions to running backs so far this season. Obviously this is a great sign for both Ekeler and Melvin Gordon who have been extremely productive in the passing game to start this season. I would expect Ekeler to return to his Week 1/Week 2 self rather than what we saw in Week 3.
Q: As a Trey Burton owner with a week 5 bye, should I drop M Jones Jr who has a week 6 bye, for Njoku now, or wait until after this week to make a decision? My other WRs in this 0.5 PPR league are M Thomas, T Hill, A Thielen, & A Robinson.
— @AndetheEngineer
Get Njoku now. We saw a budding chemistry between Baker Mayfield and Njoku during the Browns’ preseason and now that it’s officially Baking Time in Cleveland (yup, just came up with that), I’d expect that connection to continue to blossom. Njoku is also just a hyper athletic tight end who could thrive in an offense that’s going to attack the middle much more and has plenty of weapons to distract defense AND a quarterback who can get the ball to him in a timely manner.
I wouldn’t recommend dropping Marvin Jones to most people because I think while his role is diminished from what it was last year in Detroit, he’s still a threat to get you touchdowns rest of the season. However, for you good sir, drop him comfortably. He’s not going to help you more than any of the wide receivers you already have. You’re rolling out the freaking Avengers right there my friend. It’s ok if you don’t keep Hawkeye on the roster. Let’s be honest, he doesn’t bring as much to the table as Thor or Iron Man or Hulk.
Q: Flex Williams, Ridley, or Gordon?
— @andrew_schuba
Oh man I really wish I had the cojones to tell you Josh Gordon but I need to see him on the field and an integral part of the Patriots offense before I start him. And while I do expect the Bengals v Falcons game to be a shootout, thus presumably a great place for Ridley to build upon his preposterous Week 3 (which is not possible, unless he somehow goes for FOUR touchdowns this week), I’m starting Mike Williams.
In fact, I added Mike Williams this week just to start him in one of my leagues. The 49ers’ pass defense has given up the sixth most fantasy points to opposing receivers and is tied for third in touchdowns given up (5). Williams is becoming the big bodied, touchdown stealing fantasy start I knew he’d always be so I’m staying on #brand and riding with my guy.
