I have been mulling over this trade for five days now. I’ve weighed MANY of the pros and cons but I can’t come to a consensus. So I turn to you, the readers, to help me. Feel free to add more context in the comments below on your thoughts concerning top relievers and young starters. I’m curious what you value more.
I am in a keeper league. Pitching categories are:
QS, Wins, K/9, Saves, Holds, ERA and WHIP
In this trade, I receive: Carlos Rodon (SP, CWS)
I give up: Aroldis Chapman (RP, NYY)
I have owned Aroldis for some time and he has done very well over the years. He generates 30 saves more often than not, he keeps his ERA sub-2.00, we all know he can throw the heat and he’s playing for the powerhouse Yankees. He is 30 years old now though.

Meanwhile, I know Carlos is an up-and-comer but I see equal parts he succeeds and equal parts nothing materializes. He’s 25, he’s young, he’s on a Chicago team that is packed full of young talent. He is finally showing a sub-4.00 ERA (something he always did in minors but never translated to the majors). It’s common for young starting pitchers to take a few years to materialize, so this could be his breakout.
Carlos Rodon is fired up.
