MLB DFS picks for Wednesday, April 4

Going with the all-day slate – first game starts at 12:10pm

MLB: Spring Training-Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Yankees Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to my DFS slant for today. Here are a few things to know:

All pricing refers to FanDuel’s quoted prices. 13 games on the docket today, first is an early one (12:10pm) going until 10:10pm tonight. Max Scherzer is the most expensive ($11,400)

Weather

New York is getting slammed with some rain; some rain in Pittsburgh (vs. Minnesota) right now.

Brisk 34 degrees in Detroit (vs. KC) right now and 21 degrees in Milwaukee (vs. Stl) right now

I’m not generally a big into the ‘stack against’ strategy because if that pitcher gets hot than you are sunk. Instead I like to employ two general strategies:

  1. If I’m doing all day then I’m going heavy on the earlier games where I can guarantee someone is starting.
  2. Regressing to the mean, if you are an above average player and you went 0 for whatever there is a good chance you are bouncing back. The same goes for players who were red hot, for this reason I’m avoiding Bryce Harper fresh off back to back great games. This also works for teams who just went off offensively or defensively. Obviously some elite players just hit night in and out, there are flaws to each strategy.

Teams who had a big day offensively yesterday

Teams who had a big day defensively yesterday

Individuals with big days yesterday

  • Didi Gregorius – 4 hits, 2 HR
  • Josh Reddick – 2 HR
  • Villanueva – 3 HR

Individuals with no hits yesterday

  • Cody Bellinger
  • Charlie Blackmon
  • Paul Goldschmidt
  • Christian Yelich
  • Matt Carpenter
  • Yoenis Cespedes
  • Edwin Encarnacion
  • Eric Hosmer
  • Francisco Lindor
  • Miguel Cabrera
  • Xander Bogaerts
  • Elvis Andrus

Today’s action

Pitching

Elite Pitcher: Corey Kluber ($11,300) at Los Angeles Angels

1. Fresh off a 13 run performance, I think LAA tones it down a bit.

2. My expectations from Kluber are 7IP; 7k; 2ER or less and a win. Last start he had 8IP and 8K but a loss as Seattle won the match 2-1

Mid-Range Pitcher: Dallas Keuchel ($8,800) vs. Baltimore Orioles

Fresh off a 6IP; 3ER, 4K loss, Dallas will bring in not only a win by 2ER or less with over 5K. The only piece I don’t feel confident about is 6IP. There was some quality starts by both Corey and Dallas in their losses last time.

Sample of hits

C/1B. Gary Sanchez. He’s a collective 0 for his last 14 and today he breaks free from that. Batting .375 vs. Snell

2B. Brad Miller. Luis Severino is good but Brad is my discount play, for $2,400 I need 3-6 points for this to a be win.

3B. Brandon Drury. I’m somewhat certain his last home run is still floating out there waiting to land.

SS. Charlie Culberson. Sure he’s a backup, sure he’s going against Max Scherzer again, just needing 3-6 points.

OF. Charlie Blackmon. Fresh off 3 straight 20+pts, he had 3 points yesterday, against San Diego I’m expecting a bounce back.

OF. Denard Span. Leading off, SB potential, a good chance at a hit somewhere in this for just $2,300.

OF. Randal Grichuk. He’s going to homer in one of his next 3 games, he’s on the cusp of doing it with his power and I think it’s today vs. Carson Fulmer.

Util. Mitch Haniger. 10+points in every game this year, add one more to that.
