Kirk Cousins expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings get their man.

We all saw this coming.

Kirk Cousins is headed to Minnesota as the free agent quarterback is expected to sign with the Vikings once NFL free agency officially starts:

There’s been plenty written on this site already about Cousins’ fit in Minnesota. Here’s what Paddi had to say on the pairing:

An intriguing proposition as a landing spot for Cousins, as none of the current quarterbacks on the Vikings is currently under contract for 2018. The Vikings also have some money to spend, with the 8th most current cap space ($49m), and the best man-for-man roster of the teams I’ve listed here.

Why it will happen: They have the cap space to pay Cousins, and have a new offensive coaching staff not entrenched with the current quarterbacks on the roster. As a free agent looking to win as well, the Vikings roster would appeal to anyone, with top tier skill position players at running back, wide receiver and tight end.

Why it won’t happen: With three quarterbacks already on the roster, it’s a murky situation and shelling out top dollar for Cousins when they have cheaper options on a roster that took them to the NFC title game this year, and a defense that’s as loaded as any in the entire league.

Fantasy Outlook: Sensational

The Vikings have two top tier receivers in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, an elite fantasy tight end in Kyle Rudolph (the only team on this list with one of those) and a dynamic young running back in Dalvin Cook (assuming he comes back healthy). They also have a pair of top-25 backup running backs behind Cook who can catch the ball as well.

My thoughts on Kirk heading to MN:

Best team for fantasy reasons: Minnesota Vikings

Duh. Everyone is on the #KirkCousins2Minnesota bandwagon and you should be too. Don’t let the fact that Washington refused to sign Cousins to a long term contract fool you into thinking Kirk is a very good starting quarterback. He is. In the last three years, Cousins is top 10 in completion percentage (7th, 66.46%), passing yards (10th, 14,886), quarterback rating (10th, 96.3) and yards per attempt (6th, 7.86). Putting him in an offense with Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Kyle Rudolph and Dalvin Cook would be a fantasy dream come true. It’s pretty clear this is the best choice.

Best team for football/life reasons: Vikings

Like I said, sometimes the planets align. The Vikings are a Super Bowl team with a quarterback need and that’s literally their only need. Cousins joins the purple and gold and now the Vikings are back in the NFC North driver seat.

Basically, this was going to happen and I for one am very happy it did. FANTASY WIN FOR EVERYONE!

Except Jets fans. Sorry not sorry.
