The first tagging of the 2018 NFL offseason has just happened and it comes from the Miami Dolphins:
The #Dolphins are going to place the franchise tag on WR Jarvis Landry, source said. It costs them $16M, but they keep a very good place in the building (and off the free agent market).

Many, myself included, thought the Dolphins wouldn’t end up tagging Jarvis Landry given both the cost and his fit in the Dolphins’ offense. While Landry has received plenty of targets and catches, those haven’t necessarily led to big plays. He averaged 8.8 yards per catch this season which is pretty criminal for a guy who caught the ball 112 times.
This isn’t to say that Landry isn’t a talented receiver, but I think he would fit better in an offense where he isn’t the number one receiver. He needs another big play receiver lined up across from him so defenses have to worry about said receiver taking the top off and that opening up the underneath field for Landry to operate.
Now, it could be that Miami is tagging him with the intent to trade him. Landry wants a long term deal but I doubt Miami will want to pay him like a WR1 (despite the 16 million they currently just signed up to pay him).
Can’t tag with the expressed plan to trade. But a trade might still make some sense here. https://t.co/k6L5MqGD0D

That could be a storyline to entertain as I personally am none to excited about Landry’s fantasy value while he’s stuck in Miami. On another team that’d know how to utilize him? Now you have my interest. Likely though, we’ll be watching Landry in Miami catching 130 balls and maining a pitiful 7 yards per catch. Woo. Hoo.

Eh, don’t really care. I play in a standard league and Landry really only matters in PPR leagues.
