Tight End Rankings: Week 5

Heath ranks the big guys for Week 5.

NFL: Buffalo Bills at Minnesota Vikings
Still better than Jimmy Graham...
Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

What up people! Welcome to the world of tight end rankings, just under the wire (ahead of Thursday Night Football). Of note, Kyle Rudolph is still better than Jimmy Graham.

Of greater importance is the health status of Rob Gronkowski, who is expected to be active tonight. If you are asking yours truly, I am squarely in the “start your studs” camp—especially with Gronkowski. Even if he is limited, he can still nab you a pair of touchdowns in limited opportunity. You signed up for this upside (and this risk) when you drafted him. Play the man.

With no further ado, here are the rankings for for Week 5:

Week 5 Tight Ends

RANK PLAYER OPPONENT NOTES
RANK PLAYER OPPONENT NOTES
1 Zach Ertz vs. MIN Give me all the volume.
2 Travis Kelce vs. JAC Give me all the volume.
3 Jared Cook @ LAC Yes, I'd take him over Gronkowski for this week. Come at me.
4 Rob Gronkowski vs. IND He's expected to be active. If you drafted him, most likely you're playing him.
5 George Kittle vs. ARI The Beathard-Kittle hookup was alive and well last week.
6 Jordan Reed @ NO Shootout potential?
7 Kyle Rudolph @ PHI He's Jimmy Graham with more receptions, yardage, and touchdowns.
8 Eric Ebron @ NE I still believe!
9 Jimmy Graham @ DET A lot of touchdown equity, sure.
10 Vance McDonald vs. ATL He has had two quality weeks in a row and the ATL defense is vulnerable.
11 David Njoku vs. BAL He has had 7 targets in three of four games this season.
12 Austin Hooper @ PIT I think he is a rock solid streamer this week given this matchup and game script.
13 Benjamin Watson vs. WAS Shootout potential with the shoddy Saints pass defense?
14 Geoff Swaim @ HOU The Cowboys are desperate for a reliable pass-catcher.
15 Ricky Seals-Jones @ SF Niners safety Jaquiski Tartt returns to dampen RSJ's outlook.
16 Antonio Gates vs. OAK Touchdown or bust.
17 Charles Clay vs. TEN I don't hate BUF at home this week.
18 Tyler Kroft vs. MIA I'm not buying the C.J. Uzomah love. Give me the guy who has already produced.
19 Austin Seferian-Jenkins @ KC No volume, but you like the matchup and potential for JAX to be chasing.
20 Nick Vannett vs. LAR The last man standing (at tight end) in Seattle.
