Fantasy Football Rankings: Tight ends in Week 3

Among the hobbled heading into Week 3 action are Rob Gronkowski (groin), Jordan Reed (chest contusion), and Tyler Eifert (knee, back). Greg Olsen has a broken foot and is already on injured reserve—he is eligible to return on November 26th. None of the aforementioned practiced on Wednesday, so today is an important day. Any sort of return to moving around, even a limited practice, would be encouraging to see. Missing practice again would make any of these three pretty risky bets on Sunday, especially Jordan Reed in the Sunday night game. If you wanted to roll the dice with Reed and had the bench space, it would be a savvy move to add Vernon Davis now in the event that Reed does miss.

The “handcuff” to Rob Gronkowski has long been a fruitful existence, as Martellus Bennett proved last year when he finished as the TE7. Playing with a Hall-of-Fame quarterback offers that sort of upside. Therefore, if Gronkowski doesn’t go on Sunday, Dwayne Allen immediately becomes a Top 10 play at the position.

Jordan Reed’s matchup against Oakland is “lit,” as the young folks say. If he doesn’t go, Vernon Davis jumps into TE1 consideration as well.

Tyler Eifert’s injury is easy to decipher—if he misses time you basically want all the A.J. Green in that offense, and nothing else.
