Clearly Ben McAdoo reads Faketeams. How else could you explain his decision to change up the Giants’ backfield less than 24 hours after I write a banger about how the Giants need to get themselves a running back? Obviously this is the only explanation.
The 0-2 start has the Giants freaking out and McAdoo is thinking of implementing a whole bunch of change, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN:
"Yeah, we can't keep doing the same thing over and over again," coach Ben McAdoo said on his Tuesday conference call. "That's insanity. It's not working. So we are going to look to make some changes this week, like we did last week.
"Maybe it will be a little more drastic this week, to use your word. If that means me giving up play-calling duties, that's something we will look at, that we'll talk about. For personnel, jobs are won in this league, they are not given away. So somebody's got to win a job or take a job to get a job."
It’s never a good sign when your head coach is thinking of giving up play-calling duties two games into the season.
In and amongst McAdoo’s plans for a whole new New York, he addressed the running back position and noted that a change could be well on it’s way:
"We evened out the reps and we have confidence in Paul, we have confidence in Orleans," McAdoo said. "Orleans had a couple cleaner looks in the ballgame [Monday]."
Thank the Earth under my feet, it’s about time to give Orleans Darkwa some more touches. On the season, Darkwa is averaging 5.2 yards per carry while Paul Perkins is putting up a dismal 1.9. One point nine. You can basically average that just falling forward every time you touch the football.
Perkins clearly has not lived up to the both real football and fantasy football hype that was building around him this offseason. I don’t think Perkins is going to be benched and forgotten about, but it seems his touches will start decreasing dramatically in favor of Darkwa.
Can’t blame anyone there.
FYI Darkwa is owned in only 1% of Yahoo leagues. So if you’re in the deepest league known to mankind, in dire need of a running back and a risk taking human who likes to take risks, then go out and pick him up.
