A pair of Mets outfielders are out for the season. A couple of fantasy stars make their long awaited returns.

Calling all fantasy owners! Clayton Kershaw is back this Friday!

Welcome back! Another week, another Top 250 update. Let’s jump right into it.

Quick reminder, these rankings are for standard 5x5 rotisserie. I’ll do my best to explain any large rankings changes and feel free to ask player specific questions in the comments. This is your weekly forum to sound off with any fantasy questions you have. I’m here to help you!

Quick Hits

  • Clayton Kershaw is back. He is set to make his return from the DL on Friday against the Padres. In 21 starts this season, Kershaw has a 2.04 ERA 0.88 WHIP and a 10.7 K/9. He moves back inside the top 15 overall rest of season and could find himself back at the #1 SP after a strong showing on Friday.
  • Trea Turner also returned from the DL. Turner made his return on Wednesday this week and has since gone 1 for 7 with 2 runs and a steal. Turner has 55 runs 36 SB and a .272 average in 70 games this season and could very well be fantasy’s best player for the final month of the season. He jumps inside the top 30 for now but I expect him to be as high as top 10 very soon.
  • Rhys Hoskins is the real deal. He is now just outside the top 10 at 1B and has jumped inside the top 70 overall. Pick him up if by some chance he is still out there in any of your leagues.
  • Ryan Braun takes a big fall in this week’s top 250 update. The Brewers slugger has taken a big step back this season and it has been primarily due to his health. Braun has played in just 77 games this season and has even been labelled ‘day-to-day’ by his manager for the rest of this year. He is hitting just .271 with 13 HR and 40 RBI. He also has just 1 HR in his past 30 games. I’m going to write most of this off to being inconsistent with his playing time due to injury. He just can’t seem to get into any rhythm. He should not be viewed as a top 125 player or a top 30 OF at this time.
  • Luke Weaver is also the real deal. Weaver stepped in for an injured Adam Wainwright and has made 3 starts this month. He has a 1.89 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 19 IP in those 3 starts. He was also the winning pitcher in all 3 game to boot. Wainwright has yet to begin a throwing program which keeps Weaver in the rotation but then something else happened... Mike Leake was traded! Leake was traded to the Mariners on Wednesday which firmly solidifies Weaver spot in the Cardinals rotation. Sure there’s pause just like with any new starter as to whether opposing hitters will figure him out. For the time being, Weaver is locked in as a top 50 SP and should be started with confidence in any outing.

Losing Faith

Here are a few players who dropped in my rankings and, if their poor performances continue, could soon be outside my top 250:

  • Marwin Gonzalez (.231 AVG .645 OPS in August. Correa will be back soon)
  • Aroldis Chapman (5.09 ERA since the break. Has better option in his own bullpen)
  • Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley (injured with no update on a return)

Hello, Goodbye

The following players are new additions to the top 250:

  • Byron Buxton
  • Blake Treinen
  • Blake Snell
  • Scott Schebler
  • Nick Williams

The following players are no longer in my top 250:

  • Michael Conforto (terrible news)
  • Yoenis Cespedes (also out for season)
  • Jedd Gyorko (might return this year but not a top 100 guy)
  • Tim Anderson
  • Yangervis Solarte

See you next week.
