A total of 5 suspensions were handed down by Major League Baseball for the fight that occurred during Thursday’s New York Yankees game against the Detroit Tigers. More on that here.
The key players involved were Miguel Cabrera and Gary Sanchez. Cabrera received the harshest punishment with a suspension of 7 games. The 34-year-old slugger has been a disappointment this season. He is hitting just .254 with only 13 HR this year. Fantasy owners have patiently waited for his season to turn around and now they will have to wait another week at the soonest.
Sanchez received a 4 game suspension. He has been arguably fantasy’s best catcher this season. He currently ranks #1 at catcher in roto formats and #2 at the position in point leagues (behind Buster Posey). The 27-year-old is hitting .278 with 27 HR on the year.
Both players are likely to appeal their respective suspensions.
