Swarming MLB: AI Picks for August 22nd

UNU, MLB

Front line talent is important in any sport. Great soccer teams usually have great goal-scorers and great football teams typically have a great quarterback. That’s important in major league baseball too, but the sheer length of the season make roster and organizational depth more important in the national pastime than in any other sport. No ball club gets through 162 games completely intact.

When the weekly UNU Baseball swarm convenes to predict ballgames, that depth – and how it affects each team – can be a key component in picking winners. Last week the swarm seemed to do rather well with that delicate calculation, as they posted a 12-3 record across 15 games, one of the best performances the swarm has posted this season. Can the UNU group’s baseball predictions keep it going today?

One team that the swarm has a lot of faith in today is the Chicago Cubs. They’re a team whose depth has been greatly tested of late, too. First, they lost catcher Willson Contreras, who at the time was the hottest hitter in baseball to a leg injury. Then last week the Northsiders lost Jon Lester, the one consistent quality starter in a rotation that’s been less-than-spectacular all season. Despite those two crippling losses, however, the Cubs have so far ably fended off challenges by the Cardinals and Brewers, and still sit atop the National League Central headed into tonight’s contest against the Reds and Homer Bailey’s snowman-like ERA.

Every week during the MLB season, Unanimous A.I. will be conducting swarms to pick the outcomes of games. If you’d like to either join a swarm or just get the predictions weekly, drop by UNU.ai.
