  • Patrick Corbin tossed 8.2 scoreless innings in a win over the Astros. He allowed just 4 hits while striking out 7. A great start by any measure, Corbin did so against the top scoring offense in baseball. He is now 10-11 on the season with a 4.25 ERA. Jose Altuve was 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts in the game. He still leads baseball with a .361 batting average. In 115 starts this year, Thursday was just the 22nd time Altuve failed to record a hit. By the way, he only had 2 such games in all of July.
  • Jon Lester didn’t make it out of the 2nd inning in a bad start against the Reds. The Cubs lefty was roughed up for 9 runs (7 earned) on 7 hits in just 1.2 innings of work. It was the 2nd time this year Lester was removed before completing 2 IP. He received a no decision as the Cubs rallied back to tie before eventually losing 13-10. Lester’s season ERA is now at 4.37. Ian Happ went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs. He is hitting .248 with 17 HR this year.
  • Ender Inciarte went 2 for 3 with a pair of solo home runs in a Braves win over the Rockies. He also had 3 runs and 2 steals. Inciarte is hitting an even .300 on the year with 10 HR 17 SB and 77 runs scored. Charlie Blackmon went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He had 2 runs and 2 RBI in the loss. With Bryce Harper now on the DL for the foreseeable future, Blackmon is now the #2 overall player in fantasy for me.
  • Luis Severino went 6.1 innings allowing 1 unearned run in a win over the Mets. The Yankees starter had 9 Ks in the outing. He improved to 10-5 on the year with a 3.18 ERA. Gary Sanchez went 2 for 5 with a homer and 5 RBI. Sanchez now has 22 HR and 64 RBI on the season.
  • Josh Donaldson went 2 for 3 with a pair of solo home runs in a Blue Jays win over the Rays. He also had 3 runs scored. Donaldson is hitting .400 with 21 RBI in August. He also has 4 home runs in his past 4 games. Justin Smoak was 2 for 4 with a 2-run HR. Smoak would finish with 3 RBI in the win. He now has 33 HR on the season.
