Wyndham Championship
Sedgewood Country Club
August 17th - 20th
The format:
Two Premium Priced picks ($8,000+)
Four Mid-tier Priced picks ($6,000- $8,000)
Two Bargain Basement picks ($6,000-)
Pricey Picks ($8,000+)
Kevin Kisner ($9,600)
Bill Haas ($9,300)
I covered Kevin and Bill in my article yesterday. Both have a history of success here mixed with solid success this season. In a tournament without the elite marquee names, these two stand out as the best two golfers given their 2017 seasons.
Mid-Tier Pick ($6,000-$8,000):
Ollie Schneiderjans ($6,900)
Seamus Power ($6,600)
Lucas Glover ($7,200)
Bud Cauley ($7,900)
Fun fact with Ollie, his last 3 tournaments AFTER he misses a cut (since he missed the cut at the Barracuda Championship) 3rd, 34th and 6th. I think he has potential for a bounce back. He's 44th in birdie average. Seamus Power, ok I'll admit it, I may have bias towards him due to his name, it reminds me of Homer Simpson as his alter ego "Max Power". Seamus is 50th on the tour in birdie average he has four consecutive tournaments with top 25 finishes. His game is perfected around the green and putting, much less on driving (120th in strokes gained off the tee). Scott Brown and Bud Cauley will be the favorites to go far. Bud finished 10th here last year and has been playing well over the last month with three top 35 finishes over his last four tournaments. Lucas has back to back top 25 finishes here. He's 26th in strokes gained tee to green, he's not going to get a ton of birdies or eagles but I'm banking on him to be in the top 25 at least 1 day and get that 5+ point boost.
Bargain Picks ($6,000-):
Ryan Blaum ($5,800)
Harold Varner III ($5,900)
Ryan has a history of success this season at golf courses in this region: Quicken Loans (MD) 57th; Wells Fargo (NC) 66th, RBC Heritage (SC) 64th, Greenbrier Classic (VA) 7th. He won't light up the course but he is making cuts all around this region and is solid for Birdies. Harold is 23rd in Eagles, 21st in Birdies, has two top 30 finishes in his last four but he HAS to stay accurate with his drives.
Average Stats (I can't go based on scores, each tournament is different contingent on how many birdies occur so I will go on finishing position which is mostly close to how well they did.)
Pricey Picks: 43rd (30th percentile)
Mid-Tier Picks: 47th (33rd percentile)
Bargain Picks: 60th (42nd percentile)
