What: World Golf Championships: Bridgestone Invitational
When: August 3rd - 6th
Where: Firestone Country Club
2016 Winner: Dustin Johnson (-6)
Purse: $9.8MM (Winner - $1.6MM)
Course: Firestone Country Club. Established in 1929, this 7,400 yard par 70 was originally designed by Bert Way but later redesigned by Robert Jones. "The Monster" as Arnold Palmer explained the par 5 16th hole which measures 625 yards is one of the marquee holes on the course. Players need to learn the course which spouts blind spots, turns and a narrow long navigation. It behooves players who are accurate and tactful with their shots.
Rory McIlroy. 4th in OWGR. In 3 starts here he has 2 top ten wins inclusive of one overall win. Top 10 finishes in 5 of his last 9 PGA events (and with the exception of one missed cut, the rest have been respectable finishes).
Kevin Chappell. Finished 3rd here last year, he's having a great season so far. 30th in FedEx Cup Ranking, 29th in OWGR. He's missed a few cuts but he's also had 4 top 10 finishes in his last 10 tournaments.
Jordan Spieth. I haven't picked him in 2 months which might be why my B average keeps tanking. With 2 top ten finishes in his last 3 appearances here and back to back wins, he's a must pick for this tournament.
Kyle Stanley. After his last 3 missed cuts he has finished: 21st, 27th and 6th. He's 15th on the FedEx Cup Ranking this year, not bad for a C Golfer who you probably have a lot of starts left with. He's currently 5th in strokes gained off the tee, 6th in strokes gained approaching the green and 5th in strokes gained tee to green.
Zach Johnson. Back to back top 20 finishes and he finished 10th here last year. He's currently 24th in strokes gained around the green.
