Friday Fun: Who’d you build your dynasty team around?

New, comment

You’ve just joined a league and you can pick from this year’s or last year’s rookies. Who you starting with?

MLB: New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Friday and while that means the weekend is just around the corner, it also means that most everyone’s afternoon is spent staring at the clock just waiting for work to get out. So, I decided to help distract you from the monotonous tick tick of the clock and from that mound of work on your desk. You’re welcome!

So this week I decided to instead of focusing on the past, take a step into the hypothetical. Now before we jump into this, know that I don’t play in dynasty leagues. I’ve always played re-draft so I may be blurring some of rules of dynasty leagues in order to make this question more fun. Hope that’s cool.

Here’s the situation I poise: You’ve just joined a new dynasty league and they’re just about to draft you in. You get to pick one rookie from either this year or last year to build your team around for the next five years. Who are you taking?

And the beauty about this question is it’s for all sports! As in, I can give you my answer for all sports despite the fact that I only play fantasy football! Look at my mind work today.

Here are my guys:

Football: Ezekiel Elliott

This is a no brainer as his rookie season was amazing and he’s in the perfect situation to have continued success for the next five years. I could have also gone with either Michael Thomas or maybe Leonard Fournette or Corey Davis if I was feeling real cocky.

Baseball: Cody Bellinger

I still have a very rudimentary understanding of fantasy baseball but here’s my reasoning for Bellinger: He hits home runs with the greatest of ease, he doesn’t strikeout and Bell-dinger might be the greatest underused nickname ever. Also considered Trea Turner since stolen bases seem important.

Basketball: Joel Embiid

Look, I get that his injury history isn’t great and that I’m taking a big risk here but HOW CAN YOU SAY NO TO THIS GUY!? He shoots 3s, blocks shots and tweets some of the best tweets ever to be tweeted. Oh, and he gets buckets. Second pick: Markelle Fultz or Jayson Tatum. Call it the homer in me but Tatum gonna be good!

Hockey:

I have no idea. Sorry NHL fans.

Who would you build your team around? Leave your add in the comments or—if you want to tell us more and paint a verbal picture for us—write a FanPost and we’ll make sure to share it!

Hopefully this will be able to distract you for the final moments of the week.

Happy weekends!
