RBC Canadian Open
Glen Abbey Golf Club
July 27th - 30th
The format:
Three Premium Priced picks ($8,000+)
One Mid-tier Priced picks ($6,000- $8,000)
Two Bargain Basement picks ($6,000-)
My final two picks are: Dustin Johnson and Vaughn Taylor
Pricey Picks ($8,000+)
Matt Kuchar ($10,100)
Tony Finau ($9,200)
Matt Kuchar is the lock. 4 top 10 finishes over the last 4 years at the RBC Open. Tony's last 5 tournament results: 5th place, 17th place, 29th place, 7th place and 27th place. He finished 77th at the RBC Open last year and 22nd in 2015.
Mid-Tier Pick ($6,000-$8,000):
Chez Reavie ($6,600)
Kevin Tway ($6,700)
Chez had a rough patch through February - April missing the cut in 6 out of 7 tournaments but since then has been paying well. He's made the cut 8 of his last 9 tournaments with a 4th place finish at FedEx St. Jude and a 16th place finish at the US Open. He finished 14th at the RBC Open last year. Kevin has put together a nice 10 tournament run where he missed the cut once (Memorial) and had 6 top 20 finishes including a 12th place finish at the John Deere Classic two weeks ago.
Bargain Picks ($6,000-):
Jim Herman ($4,800)
Hudson Swafford ($5,700)
Jim played well at the Memorial Tournament (Nicklaus course) as he went 29 straight holes without a bogey going into the tournament. He's a very accurate driver and is 10th on the tour in greens in regulation. Hudson is a golfer I keep waiting to break through. He's 33rd in strokes gained off the tee but his approach the green is what keeps cutting him down. He was 14th at the RBC Canadien open last year and is worth the gamble for just $5,700.
Average Stats (I can't go based on scores, each tournament is different contingent on how many birdies occur so I will go on finishing position which is mostly close to how well they did.)
Pricey Picks: 52nd (35th percentile)
Mid-Tier Picks: 51st (34th percentile)
Bargain Picks: 67th (45th percentile)
