What: John Deere Classic
When: July 13th - 16th
Where: TPC Deere Run
2016 Winner: Ryan Moore (-22)
Purse: $5.6MM (Winner - $1MM)
Course: TPC Deere Run. Designed in 2000 by D.A. Weibring, this 7,250 yard part 71 course running along the Rock River is a precursor to the British Open. It has many elevation changes with scenic overviews of forestry all over. The roughs are damaging and difficult to get out of and accuracy is an important characteristic to have.
A Golfer.
Alex Cejka. Fresh off a 9th place finish at the Greenbrier classic, Alex has made the cut both attempts at the John Deere Classic. The field in general is down so Alex's accurate driving (35th on tour) and stokes gained around the green (64th) will have to due to the best option available.
B Golfers:
Danny Lee. He won here a few years ago and is on a tear right now with 4 top ten finishes over his last 7 tournaments (all of the other 3 were top 50 finishes). He's 32nd in strokes gained approaching the green and strokes gained putting to go with 53rd in total stokes gained.
Johnson Wagner. I mentioned this in the other article - it's not often you can select him, this is one of those tournaments where he is 3 for 3 in not only making cuts but top ten finishes as well. 5th last year, 5th in 2015 and 7th in 2014.
C Golfer.
Brian Harman. He won here 3 years back and while he missed the cut here last year, his track record shows a steady stream of top 50 finishes at the John Deere Classic. In addition he's been playing well lately with a win at Wells Fargo to go with 5 top 15 finishes over his last 8 tournaments.
Dark Horse:
Kyle Stanley. He won at Quicken Loans National to cap off 3 top ten finishes over his last 6 tournaments. He finishes 22nd here last year and 18th in 2015.
