Fantasy Football: Quarterback depth chart and rankings post 2017 NFL Draft

Keeping track of quarterback depth charts around the league.

NFL: Houston Texans-Deshaun Watson Press Conference Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The 2017 NFL draft has come and gone and now it’s time to see how the dust has settled.

Here are the quarterback depth charts of all 32 teams. Obviously those signal callers labeled Starter are currently set to be leading their team come September. For each QB, I’ve also attached a Value to them (where I see their fantasy value currently at): QB1 (top 10), QB2 (11-25) and Don’t Bother (pretty self explanatory). Backup is who is currently behind the starter on team’s depth chart. I’ve given my value for each of the backups for if either the starter is injured or is replaced (looking right at you Tom Savage). For backups I’ve also added a Waiver value, which means worth a potential pickup.

Quick Thoughts:

  • Still not touching the Bears’ quarterbacks if my life depended on it. Was not a fan of Mike Glennon before the draft, and now with the Bears trading a stupid amount to move up one spot to get Mitchell Trubisky, my interest in Glennon is less than zero.
  • While my feelings remain the same in Chicago, they are very different out in Houston. I’m still ranking Tom Savage as a “Don’t Bother” but that in large part is due to the fact that I don’t think he has a starting job soon. I think Watson is going to come in and win that job fairly easily and will have a good amount of success in Houston. I maybe too ambitious with my QB2 ranking on him—ok, I am being too ambitious—but I think he has the potential to be worth that with the Texans.
  • The only other shake up here is Alex Smith and the Chiefs. Do I think Pat Mahomes will change Smith at all this year for the starting job? No. Smith is still the starter there (for at least this year) and with that his value doesn’t change. However, clearly the Chiefs think highly of Pat and don’t believe Smith can take them to the promise lands. If Smith were to get injured this year and Mahomes played well, I wouldn’t be surprised if we have a 49ers Part II on our hands. Poor Alex.
