Everything's more fun when you keep score. It’s a fact.
So when our managing editor Pete Rogers recommended I keep a record of my success rate with these value picks, I was all for it.
Since DFS players are priced differently, it’s impossible to measure success on a fixed scale. Thus, from now on I will not only be making a daily value pick, but also setting a line that this pick has to exceed in order for it to be considered a success. You can let me know in the comments if you think the line is way off, but I’ll do my best to be fair.
Yesterday’s selection, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot posted 19 points (3 3PM), 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 0 turnovers, which came out to 33.1 FanDuel points and 34.8 DraftKings points. I’m counting that as a W.
In other words, I’m undefeated.
Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard JR Smith
FanDuel price: $3,600
DraftKings price: $4,200
Opponent: Boston Celtics
JR Swish is back.
In the last four games, the dynamic shooting guard has averaged just under 16 points in 34 minutes per. He’s hit 19 three-pointers over that span, shooting a scorching 58%.
It’s a big game tonight. Boston and Cleveland are clashing for the No. 1 seed in the East. I know LeBron downplayed its significance, telling Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com: “I’m sorry. I’ve been to six straight Finals, man. I’m the last person to ask about a regular-season game, dude. Sorry”; but I don’t totally buy it.
Yes, LeBron isn’t hyping up this game like we are; and he’s probably not the one to ask about a regular-season game. But both teams understand what’s at stake. No one’s sleep walking through this one.
And remember, JR isn’t exactly beloved at TD Garden:
I’ll bet he brings the fire.
FanDuel success line: 22 points
DraftKings success line: 24 points
