NFL Draft: Round 1 picks

1. Cleveland Browns: EDGE Myles Garrett

The pick has already been announced it seem and bless the Browns for not Brownsing this up. Garrett was clearly the right pick here. He’ll be terrorizing Joe Flacco, Ben Roethlisberger and Andy Dalton next year.

2. Chicago Bears (via San Francisco): QB Mitchell Trubisky

OH MY SWEET GOODNESS GRACIOUS. So the Bears give up a lot to move up one pick to take Mitchell Trubisky after spending a boat load of money to get Mike Glennon this offseason. Wow. Just wow. I’m sorry, this is dumb.

3. San Francisco 49ers: DL Solomon Thomas

Great pick for the 49ers. The last 10 minutes have just been brilliant for John Lynch in his first year of GMing for San Fran. They add a disruptive interior pass rusher to add to a young defense. Great get.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars: RB Leonard Fournette

Every mock had this so I should have just gotten used to the idea that it was going to happen. I like it, I don’t love it. However, I do think that adding Fournette to the Jags takes the pressure off Blake Bortles which hopefully will help him from making stupid decisions. The hope is that Fournette helps both the Jag’s passing game and rushing game.

5. Tennessee Titans: WR Corey Davis

I really wanted the Titans to take Mike Williams but Corey Davis also works. He’ll come into Tennessee as their number one receiver (most likely) and will quickly become Mariota’s favorite target. Any receiver to Tennessee is worthy of fantasy consideration and Davis certainly fits the bill. He’ll be a WR2 easily. Like this move a lot.

6. New York Jets: S Jamal Adams

Good get for the Jets. Adds tenacity and aggressiveness to their defense that was seriously lacking in both categories last year. I would say this will have an impact on Tom Brady’s fantasy value, but let’s be honest, we know it won’t. It might affect Ryan Tannehill and Tyrod Taylor though.

7. Los Angeles Chargers: WR Mike Williams

WOO! Sneaky pick here, no one saw this coming. While I know Keenan Allen is already there but a) he’s always injured and b) Williams will pair very nicely with him. Putting Williams with a quarterback like Philip Rivers is GREAT for his fantasy value. He’s a WR2 right from the bat in my book.

8. Carolina Panthers: RB Christian McCaffrey

The fantasy wizard is off the board. The guy does it all and you can bet he will do it all in Carolina. I’ll be interested to see how they fit him into the offense as they typically have run more of a power scheme but pairing a weapon like McCaffrey in the same backfield as Cam Newton is dangerous. I like.

9. Cincinnati Bengals: WR John Ross

CALLED IT! CALLED IT! I LOVE this and I know I’ve been loving a lot recently but this is perfect fit and pairing. Adding John Ross’ speed to the offense is a game changer and pairing him with Andy Dalton and A.J. Green sends his fantasy value skyrocketing. This is a guy to keep eyes on in your fantasy drafts.

10. Kansas City Chiefs (via Buffalo Bills): QB Pat Mahomes

Wow. This draft is crazy. I can’t keep up with all the insanity but I love it! Keep it coming NFL! I have no idea if Mahomes is going to be anything of value in terms of fantasy this year but for dynasty leagues, he’s someone to keep an eye on. Also, bye bye Alex Smith.

11. New Orleans Saints: CB Marshon Lattimore

Pick makes tons of sense. The Saints had to fix their defense especially their secondary. Lattimore will immediately make a difference and help cover the bigger receivers of the NFC South. It’ll be interesting to see what Lattimore can do against Mike Evans, Kelvin Benjamin & Julio Jones.

12. Houston Texans (via Cleveland Browns): QB Deshaun Watson

Yup. Yup. Yup. I like this a lot. To me Watson is the best quarterback in this draft and he’s going to a team that is Super Bowl ready and is loaded on the offensive side. He’ll be throwing the ball to fellow Clemson alumn DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller and Braxton Miller. Plus that defense is pretty good. Of all the quarterbacks taken today, Watson has the best fantasy value right now.

13. Arizona Cardinals: LB Haasan Reddick

Cardinals get a do-it-all athletic linebacker who can rush the quarterback and can cover. Great addition to the Cardinals’ defense.

14. Philadelphia Eagles: EDGE Derek Barnett

Add another pass rusher to play in Jim Schwartz’s defense. He had 32 sacks in college and is going to be a force in the NFL. We’ll see how he does against the NFC East QBs, Dak Prescott, Kirk Cousins and Eli Manning.

15. Indianapolis Colts: S Malik Hooker

I’m amazed that Hooker fell this far. He’s been compared to Earl Thomas and if that turns out, the Colts got themselves a heck of a defender. He’s an interception machine and will have a field day playing in the same division as Blake Bortles, Marcus Mariota and now Deshaun Watson.

16. Baltimore Ravens: CB Marlon Humphrey

Ravens address their secondary taking Humphrey. Get themselves a corner to help deal with the wealth of receiving talent in the AFC North with A.J. Green, Antonio Brown and... well... Corey Coleman I guess.

17. Washington: DL Jonathan Allen

Allen’s fall stops in Washington. Washington adds a dominate defensive lineman who’s biggest task will be helping to slow down Ezekiel Elliott. Washington just added a hell of a player.

18. Tennessee Titans: CB Adoree Jackson

Titans get another corner to pair with offseason signing Logan Ryan. He’s quick, explosive, can play outside and nickel and adds value as a punt returner.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: TE O.J. Howard

You know I love this pick. Howard is the best tight end in this draft and now he’s going to an offense with Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson. Oh and Jameis Winston will be passing him the football. Howard not only is a great fantasy option but he makes Winston an even BETTER fantasy option. This is a terrific pick for fantasy reasons.

20. Denver Broncos: OT Garett Bolles

Good pick for the Broncos. They needed pass blocking and they got one of the best pass blockers—and the most athletic linemen—in the draft. Hopefully with a stronger offensive line, the Broncos’ receivers, backs and quarterbacks will have a little more fantasy value.

21. Detroit Lions: LB Jarrad Davis

Lions get an athletic linebacker to help improve the middle of their defense. He has all the physical traits to play all three downs in the pros. Also, I think injuries with Reuben Foster are worse than expected hence his drop.

22. Miami Dolphins: EDGE Charles Harris

Dolphins get their pass rusher of the future. With Cameron Wake getting older, the Fins needed to address their pass rush and did just that. His job will be to break Tom Brady. For fantasy reasons let’s hope he doesn’t.

23. New York Giants: TE Evan Engram

Didn’t think that Engram would go before David Njoku but he did. The Giants got themselves a matchup nightmare and he’ll immediately have an impact in the Giants offense. I really like this pick from a fantasy perspective as the Giants have no one at tight end to challenge him for snaps, it’ll just be a matter of seeing how much attention he’ll receive in a crowded passing attack.

24. Oakland Raiders: CB Gareon Conley

Raiders get a big corner who feel in the draft due to rape allegations.

25. Cleveland Browns (via Houston Texans): LB/S Jabrill Peppers

The Browns kept trading back and back and back and a small part of me thought that maybe they were collecting picks to move for Jimmy Garoppolo but alas, it was not so. The Browns take defensive weapon Peppers which I like, if they have a plan for him. Peppers can be a difference maker if used correctly and I’ll be interested to see if that happens in Cleveland.

26. Atlanta Falcons (via Seattle Seahawks): EDGE Takk McKinley

Falcons trade up to get a pass rusher. Good get for a defense that still needs to get after the quarterback.

27. Buffalo Bills (via Kansas City Chiefs): CB TreDavious White

Bills go secondary after trading down out of the top 10. Extremely solid cornerback who can play inside and outside.

28. Dallas Cowboys: EDGE Taco Charlton

Dallas address their pass rush with the best remaining pass rusher on the board.

29. Cleveland Browns (via Green Bay Packers): TE David Njoku

Browns trade back into the first round to get their tight end of the future. The Browns know how to use their tight ends and they’ll be able to get a lot out of Njoku. For fantasy, obviously Njoku’s value is based on who’s throwing him the football but this is a good landing spot for him.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers: LB T.J. Watt

I’m willing to bet the Browns traded back into the first round to take Njoku from the Steelers, which is sad because I would have LOVED to have seen Njoku in Pittsburgh. Steelers address their pass rush with a guy who knows how to get after the quarterback.

31. San Francisco 49ers (via Seattle Seahawks via Atlanta Falcons): LB Reuben Foster

49ers trade back into the 1st round to get the best linebacker in the draft. If Reuben Foster’s health issues are not as major as everyone thinks they are, this is a hell of a get for the Niners who’ve been looking for a rock in the middle of their defense since Patrick Willis.

32. New Orleans Saints: OL Ryan Ramczyk

Saints end this crazy crazy draft taking an offensive lineman. Good pick.

AND WE’RE DONE HERE! WHAT. A. NIGHT.
