Weekly NHL Forecaster 3/20 - 3/26

Below is the average of ‘CORSI For per 60 minutes' on the Home team and Away team to tell me if this is going to be a shot filled matchup. The graph below is sorted from the most offensively oriented games to the least offensively oriented. To put it in a nutshell, if you want goals scored -look at the top teams, if you want to see where your goalie will be seeing few shots and have the best opportunity look to the bottom. Updated as of 12/28/2016

Ten Notes:
1. Calgary Flames. They are keeping the flame going (see what I did there). Players who are heating up: Mikael Backlund (48% owned) 10 points in 13 games including 6 goals; Matthew Tkachuk (56% owned) 10 points in 13 games, Michael Frolik (26% owned) 10 points in 13 games, Michael Ferland (4% owned) 6 goals in 13 games to go with 25 hits.

2. Vancouver Canucks. They face two of the top 5 teams on the road, as the 4th worst team in the league who has won 2 of their last 10 games. The ownership percentages of the players in fantasy leagues tell the story. (no one over 70% owned).

3. New Jersey Devils. If it isn't already obvious, they are in free fall mode through the remainder of the year, 1 win in their last 10 and furthermore, it shows on the ice. I would be tempted to avoid any Devils players not named Taylor Hall and Kyle Palmieri.

4. Philadelphia Flyers. One would think that being on the bubble of a playoff berth would motivate a team...one would think. 4-5-1 over their last ten and losing traction each day, especially with a 6-2 beat down by a team not even trying (Devils). I'm becoming very Bearish on their outlook through these pivotal fantasy playoff weeks.

5. Montreal Canadiens. With their playoff berth close to in hand and a lighter schedule (Detroit, Carolina and Ottawa) Julien might be tempted to pull back on some minutes form his guys over the next two weeks so watch for that.

6. Tampa Bay Lightning have received a new resurgence of power. 7 wins in their last 10 and they face Arizona and Detroit who are both in the bottom 5 in the league. A good chance for Ondrej Palat (31% owned) to keep up his strong play as well as Tyler Johnson (52% owned), great to see the young guys coming back to form.

7. Edmonton Oilers. They are on the north side of safe but they face LA who is fighting for a spot while chasing Anaheim who is just ahead of them with two games against Colorado. Look for them to make the most out of this week. Adam Larsson (16% owned) doesn't provide points but does provide a lot of hits and blocked shots.

8. Dallas Stars. The good news - they face New Jersey! Bad news - before that they face San Jose twice and Chicago who are a combined 15-5 over their last 10.

9. Toronto Maple Leafs. A very topsy turvy week for them. They start the week against the Blue Jackets (2nd in league) and Bruins (7-3 over their last 10) then get New Jersey and Buffalo who are a combined 3-13-4 over their last 10. If you are in a daily league, lock in on the second half of their week.

10. Chicago Blackhawks. Another team who can coast to the playoffs gets a nice week. Vancouver, Dallas and Florida who are a combined  9-17-4 over their last 10. Two of the matchups are at home and the Panthers especially are doing what young teams do best, go on a hot streak then an equally cold streak. Richard Panik (46%) continues to yield benefits from Jonathan Toews's resurgent second half.
