Paul Millsap Injury Fallout

Millsap is out for 3 months - here’s the fantasy impact

NBA: Denver Nuggets at Portland Trail Blazers Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

Paul Millsap is going to miss the next 3 months for the Denver Nuggets following surgery on his left wrist. Millsap was averaging just under 30 minutes per game, 15.3 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 3.1 APG, and 1.3 BPG and playing well alongside Nikola Jokic.

Before we fully knew the extent of the injury, Millsap sat out Monday against Sacramento and his minutes were split up amongst Kenneth Faried (19 mins), Juancho Hernangomez (22 mins), and Trey Lyles (18 mins) so we have a preview of how the new rotations will shakeout in Denver. Faried received the start, but Hernangomez was most effective against a weak Sacramento defense.

I would rank the replacements as follows:

  1. Kenneth Faried (14% owned)
  2. Juancho Hernangomez (3% owned)
  3. Trey Lyles (2% owned)

Faried is going to fill the stat sheet better than Hernangomez or Lyles, and given his designation as starter, will likely see more minutes in closer contests. Hernangomez is going to be a better scorer than Faried and if you need a bump in 3PM he might be fill a bigger need. Lyles is an interesting add in deeper leagues and might be the most talented of the three.

Also worth noting that Will Barton receives a sizeable value bump. At 74% owned he’s likely not on the waiver wire, but should be under priced in daily fantasy for the next few Nuggets game.
