Bold Predictions for Week 5: A low "Charged" matchup

Why the Giants RBs might finally do something

Recapping last week’s picks:

1. Isaiah Crowell has 114 yards and 0 TDs through 3 games, in week 4 he scores 1 TD with at least 70 yards.

Outcome: (Grade: D) This one was a clunker. Not only did he rush for 20 yards only breaking through one time across 7 carries but when the Browns were gifted with back to back Pass Interference calls allowing them a handful of plays at the 1 yard line Duke got two chances to punch the ball in. Isaiah has one more week to prove his worth against a porous Jets rush defense before I give up on his 2017 fantasy season.

2. Both Robert Woods AND Sammy Watkins (LAR) score at LEAST either a TD or 50 yards against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.

Outcome: (Grade: D) Well the right idea was there, LAR did have this happen but I picked the wrong two players. Woods and Watkins both had just 17 receiving yards across 3 total catches while Todd Gurley, Cooper Kupp and Tyler Higbee combined for 201 yards and 2 TD’s. If you followed my advice I apologize, I really thought the Jared Goff had a report with Woods and Watkins

3. San Francisco 49ers get their first W of the season against the Arizona Cardinals.

Outcome: (Grade: B). Man did I think I had this spot and point. The 49ers were driving down the field with 30 seconds left on the clock on the 46 – Hoyer completes a 3 yard pass to Pierre Garcon then they air the ball out deep on a no huddle shotgun…incomplete. 3rd down they try again off the shotgun and..incomplete. Any pass over about 15 yards would have put them in range to attempt a field goal to win it. Instead it goes to OT where they scored a field goal and the Cardinals got a nice TD to Larry Fitzgerald. So close I could taste the win.

4. After back to back weeks of Russell Wilson throwing for less than 200 yards he will throw for 300+ yards and 2 TD’s vs. Indianapolis Colts

Outcome: (Grade: B) I feel like I should give myself an A for this but I’ll keep it honest. Russell Wilson DID have 2 TDs against the Indianapolis Colts but he threw for 295 yards, 5 yards short of my expected 300 yards in Seattle’s 46-18 win.

5. The Detroit Lions score 2 Passing TDs, their first rushing TD and 3 FG to the Minnesota Vikings giving a value based week to Matt Prater, Matthew Stanford and Ameer Abdullah

Outcome: (Grade: C) I will give myself a C on this, they had 2 FG so the Matt Prater piece was accurate, Ameer Abdullah had a TD and 94 yards rushing, Matthew Stanford laid a goose egg against a Minnesota defense that allows QBs to boost their stats. It must be an exciting time for Detroit pass catchers as 7 different players had at least 10 receiving yards.

Week 5 Bold Picks:

1. Over/Under for the LA Chargers game at MetLife Stadium vs. the New York Giants is 44.5. I’m taking the under even at 40.5

Background: The Giants have scored 3 points, 10 points, 24 points and 23 points in their four games this year for an average of 15 points per game with 24 being the high. The LA Chargers have scored 21 points, 17 points, 10 points and 24 points for an average of 18 points per game and high of 24. Both teams would have to hit their season high in points to pass this for starters but furthermore the Chargers high of 24 points was at home and the Giants was on the road, an unideal situation for both.

2. For a second time this year, no WR on Oakland has more than 50 yards receiving.

Week 1: Michael Crabtree -83 yards, Amari Cooper – 62 yards & Jared Cook – 56 yards

Week 2: Michael Crabtree – 80 yards & Jalen Richard – 51 yards

Week 3: Jared Cook – 43 yards

Week 4: Johnny Holton – 64 yards.

Derek Carr is now out with EJ Manuel doing a respective job trying to rally Oakland to a win over a very strong Denver defense. They now face Baltimore who has allowed just 3 WR to score at least 50 yards this season and one of those three is AJ Green. I think the combination of this will stifle Oakland’s WR Corps

3. No Giants RB has more than 70 yards rushing on the SEASON, a Giants RB has 100 yards rushing on Sunday.

Background: I just don’t know which RB it will be. They face a LA Chargers team who has allowed the 2ndmost rushing yards against this season and keeps suffering heart breaking loses, part of me is equally intrigued in this matchup and Browns vs. Jets to see who pulls out the win in each matchup. For the RB in this game, i’m leaning MORE towards Orleans Darkwa or Shane Vereen then Paul Perkins but it’s very much in the air.

4. The San Francisco 49ers score a D/ST TD on Sunday

Background: They have not scored one this season but they face Indianapolis who has allowed 5 Interception or Fumble return TD’s. The Colts are turnover prone and the 49ers will capitalize on that at least once on Sunday.

5. Jameis Winston throws for a season high 350 yards and 3 TDs this weekend.

Background: New England’s defense is bad especially to opposing Quarterbacks. They have allowed Alex Smith (368 yards 4 TDs); Drew Brees (356 yards 2 TDs); Deshaun Watson (301 yards 2 TDs) and Cam Newton (316 yards 3 TDs)

2017 Report card:

A – 4

B – 6

C – 1

D – 4

Here is how I will be grading my Bold picks this year

A – The bold pick happened as I stated

B – The bold pick did NOT happened as stated but the idea behind it was there (example I predicted Jesse James would have 0 TDs and fewer than 20 yards in week 2, he had 27 yards, the general idea to avoid him in fantasy was present.

C – The bold pick did NOT happen and the overall feel for what occurred had you saying “meh”

D – The bold pick was nowhere near accurate
